Be prepared.

We are not really sure how it happened, but, somehow, it is already June – and you know what that means for us here in South Louisiana. It marks the start of another Atlantic hurricane season. That means all of us will have at least one eye on the tropics for the next six months.

But June also brings Men’s Health Month, a time set aside to heighten awareness of preventable health problems for men and boys, and to encourage health screenings in the interest of early detection.

So, what do the two have in common?

In both cases, now is the time to go through the annual exercise of positioning ourselves to weather whatever storms may come.

In other words, to quote the Boy Scouts of America motto: Be prepared.

We can help in that regard through our second annual Man Up! screening event at the Covington Beer Garden, a fun and free party we had to reschedule after a rainout last Friday. Watch the news feed on our website and social media channels for a rain date when it is available.

In the meantime, let it be a reminder to schedule an appointment with your primary care physician to talk about what screenings you should be thinking about. (Need to find a primary care physician? The “Find a Provider” tool on our website can help with that, too!)

That is only one of the headlines coming out of our always-busy STHS newsroom. Scroll down for more.

Enjoy – and be well!

Community Checkup

As we head into the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, it is time to brace ourselves for whatever storms might come our way – but at St. Tammany Health System it is also a time to celebrate, STHS President and CEO Joan Coffman says.

Tune in, Tammany

St. Tammany Health System is on the air.

The health system’s Communication Department recently unveiled “Northshore Healthbeat,” a public affairs podcast dedicated to local healthcare issues and happenings, featuring interviews with local care providers, patients and community stakeholders.

“‘Northshore Healthbeat’ is, simply, the heart and soul for wellness in St Tammany,” said STHS Communication Director Amy Bouton, who hosts the twice-monthly show with other members of the health system’s Communication team. “We envision it as a place for fun, healthy conversations with trusted experts from throughout St Tammany Health System – and beyond – on the topics that matter most to you, your family and our community.”

The show will air once every two weeks and is available now on most major podcast platforms.
