Implementation of wvOASIS Update

The implementation of HR and Payroll (Phase D) of wvOASIS is fast approaching! Payroll will be calculating time and leave in Kronos and you will be assigned a timekeeper (your supervisor or second level supervisor) to confirm your time and leave approvals in the system.

Timekeeper training is currently being scheduled and is available in seat in Charleston as well as in online modules. You will be contacted by a training coordinator to arrange your training, if required. Timekeeper entry and approval of time and leave into Kronos is currently underway. This is to allow for the identification of errors and glitches in the system so there is plenty of time to make corrections before payroll is generated live out of the system beginning November 14, 2015.

According to the latest information, beginning October 3, all full time regular employees (with the exception of 9- and 11-month faculty) will have the opportunity to become familiar with the system and begin entering their own time and leave. This allows for approximately 5 weeks of practice prior to go-live on November 14.

Due to the changes to how we submit and approve time and leave, a new non-exempt time card has been created and Payroll expects our full time regular non-exempt employees to begin using it immediately. It will need to be submitted to Timesheet@newriver.edu on a bi-weekly basis rather than the current monthly basis.

Don't panic! Training will be provided. Look for more information regarding dates and times for End User Training via email and the Hawk's Nest.

HLC Persistence and Completion Work Continues

A team of five from the College attended the Higher Learning Commission Persistence and Completion Academy Roundtable meeting in June in St. Charles, Illinois. The team participated in planning sessions focused on the following topics: understanding data, exploring why students leave, determining data needs, data development in the context of institutional realities, and devising strategies to implement a data development plan.

These sessions helped the team focus on our next steps relating to developing our data collection, analysis, and reporting capabilities leading to the implementation of student persistence and completion strategies.

This fall, the team will be working with College committees including Persistence and Completion and Institutional Research to establish timelines and further refine projects in this area.

One of the most important tasks of the committee in the near future is developing and implementing an early alert system for students who are at risk of dropping out of their courses.

Calling all poets, musicians, and storytellers who want to celebrate Appalachian heritage -- mark your calendars for Oct. 23. The event will be free and open to the public.
