 Secretary's Pen Dec 2022

Working with young people is a rewarding experience, but also brings important responsibilities. Kids' safety is vital for Kiwanians.

We have two key ways of protecting young people:

Club SLP Advisors Vulnerability Checks

All Kiwanis advisors to any sponsored Service Leadership Program, or SLP (i.e., CKI, Key Cub, Builders Club, K-Kids and Aktion Club), are required to have a Criminal background/Vulnerability check conducted and verified by Kiwanis International, per Kiwanis International policy B.16., Procedure 197.

Secretaries should confirm that any of your club's SLP advisors have their background checks completed.

If these need to be updated, click here to get the wording for the request letter.

The Club Kiwanis Advisor should obtain the Vulnerability check from the Police and themselves forward to Kiwanis International. Should clubs have any questions regarding this or experience issues in securing the check, please advise the District Office.

Annual Training and Review of Kiwanis Youth Policies and Procedures

Has your club completed its training for the 2022-23 year? If so, club secretaries should update the Secretary Dashboard by checking the box "Our club has received youth protection guideline training."

If not yet, a number of resources are available:

Projects Worth Celebrating!

Send reports of your club's projects with details and photos. I'll send them on to KI for consideration in the Kiwanis magazine. We need to share more of what Canadian clubs are doing for kids in their communities.
