Each year Lehman College recognizes a full-time and a part-time faculty member for Excellence in Teaching at our commencement ceremony. We have recently reached out to all students and alumni asking them to write nominating letters for any faculty who have gone above and beyond to promote our students’ learning, intellectual development, and aspirations for the future.
As you know, many students do not regularly check College mass mailings. We are depending on you to help make them aware of this award and the vital role they play in identifying outstanding candidates. We are attaching a copy of the message that was sent to all students to this communication. If you could post the message to your BB class sites and announce it in class, it would be greatly appreciated.
Nomination letters are read by a committee made up of the previous winners of this award. While the committee will accept nominations from any member of the Lehman Community, greater weight is given to nominating letters that come directly from students. Self-nominations, group petitions, letters solicited by a nominee, and letters clearly written for other purposes (I.e., chair’s reports for tenure and promotion) are given substantially less consideration by the committee.
All nominees will be screened for eligibility. For the Excellence in Teaching Award, a full-time faculty member must have been employed full time during at least one semester of the academic year 2022/2023 and must have tenure or Certificate of Continuous Employment (CCE). Previous awardees are not eligible.
To be eligible for the Adjunct Teacher of the Year Award, a candidate must have completed a minimum of six (not necessarily consecutive) semesters of teaching at Lehman College and taught during the 2022/2023 academic year. Previous awardees are not eligible.*
