From My Desk to Your Inbox
This past year has been challenging and rewarding at the same time. However, we have made significant strides in making the City a better place to live and work. I look forward to 2024 with the many new activities, events, and programs at the Aquatic & Community Center - the hub of it all. The Aquatic and Community Center is fully open to serve the community. Several recent programs are available, including morning and evening Pickleball and Yoga. Youth programs are in full swing with LBJ Basketball. The Community Center also offers a 55+ workout room for our older adults. The schedule and opening of the 55+ workout room will be available this month. Keep updated on these and other offerings at the ACC by watching the City's website, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Infrastructure projects, such as the road and sidewalk programs, will continue to be a priority in 2024, with an aggressive action plan for approximately 12 city streets proposed for this year. Additionally, the Service Department and City Engineer will oversee the redesign of the Mayfield Road median near I-271. Since this is a gateway to the City, we want to make it more appealing, welcoming, and safe for your commute through that bustling area. Look for updates on all these and more projects in the coming months.
We strive to keep communications strong, and hopefully, by now, you will have visited the City's new website. The redesigned website was a year-long project to make the straightforward navigation better to meet your needs and interests. This year, we will add more features to keep you as up-to-date on city information as possible, with more news flashes and calendars. This month, we will install a new program for our community cable channels, allowing for better programming for announcements and recorded meetings.
With so much to look forward to in 2024, I want to express my heartfelt wishes for a prosperous and joyful year. Let us continue working together to build a stronger community. Together, we can achieve remarkable things.

Retirement
Karen Fegan, Finance Director
Karen Fegan brought a wealth of experience to our team when she came on board in December of 2018. Her dedication and leadership were instrumental in updating our finance system with cutting-edge technology and spearheading the transition to a paperless environment. This initiative significantly enhanced accessibility for employees and streamlined our reporting processes.
Beyond the technical advances, Karen played a pivotal role in the redevelopment of our finance team. Following the retirement of long-standing employees, she successfully established a new department, implemented updated processes, and contributed significantly to the overall financial well-being of our city.
As Karen embarks on this well-deserved chapter of retirement, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for her years of service, dedication, and the positive impact she made on our organization. We wish her well in all of her future endeavors.

From the Recreation Director's Desk
As we welcome the new year and programs begin, we are happy to announce that we are a Silver Sneakers partner for various recreation programs. We are also in the process of becoming a partner with two additional insurance programs and will have more information available on those programs in the coming weeks. Please watch the city's website and social media channels for updates.
As of this writing, we are working out some logistics for the 55+ Fitness Room and hope to resolve them soon. When we developed the concept for the 55+ Fitness Room, we envisioned it as an intimate space for participants who find the average fitness gym overwhelming. The equipment chosen and the space were designed with this in mind. The 55+ Fitness Room and Wildcat Sport & Fitness at Mayfield High School give our residents other options over the national chains.
We have started taking reservations for the community rooms. Stop by for a tour to see the rooms or call us at 440.442.2627 for pricing and availability. We will soon have all this information available on our website.
My staff and I are very excited about all the opportunities we have for our residents at the Aquatic and Community Center. We invite you to stop in for a. Please don't hesitate to email them at recreation@mayfieldheightsohio.gov.
We look forward to seeing you soon!

Mayfield Road Median
After 20-plus years, the Mayfield Road median wall, or center strip, will be receiving a fresh look in the next couple of months. The existing wall will be removed, and cement will be poured where the current retaining wall and beds are situated. The west-end waterfall feature will remain in place. Repairs will be made to the wall and bed that surround the waterfall, bringing it back to the beautiful feature it once was. Once the work is completed, large containers will be placed on the new cement with flowers will be added for the spring and summer months.
Municipal Complex Lighting Fixtures are Updated
The municipal complex is in the process of receiving a lighting update. Thanks to the NOPEC Energized Community Grant, all of City Hall, building department, service, and fire bays will be receiving new energy-efficient LED lighting. This project was roughly $115,000. It is our hope that these updates will continue to enhance the municipal complex in a more efficient manner.
