From My Desk to Your Inbox
After a long winter, spring is finally here! I trust you are excited to get back outside and enjoy the fresh air and warmer temperatures. We are pleased about all the upcoming programs and events throughout the spring season.
Summer Camp registration is underway and filling up quickly. Non-resident Summer Camp registration begins on April 17. Check the city's website or the Parks & Recreation Spring/Summer Activity Guide for additional sports, activities, and events registration deadlines.
Activities and bus trips are offered to individuals of all ages. Joining a new activity allows you not only to learn something new but it also is an opportunity to meet new people and stay active. We are a community with incredible opportunities!
This spring, we will continue building on planning efforts around the future growth and development of Mayfield Heights. The Aquatic and Community Center is changing the city's footprint right before our eyes.
The road and sidewalk program help maintain a continued strong infrastructure. We must ensure this growth is guided to promote the city's long-term well-being.
Shred/Recycle Day is a popular and well-attended event scheduled for May 13. Due to the new Aquatic and Community Center construction on Marsol Road, the event has been moved to City Park's north parking lot behind Nick Mayer Lincoln off of Chelmsford Road.
I am excited about all that 2023 has to offer the City of Mayfield Heights! We have so many remarkable things on the horizon as we continue to grow and flourish as a community.

Gearing up for a Busy Season
Just like the spring season, the Service Department is seeing some changes. With the recent promotions of Nick Police to IT Manager, Chuck Brunello to Assistant Service Director, and with the departure of one of our service techs, we are happy to welcome Nancy Mercurio to our department. Nancy will be your first point of contact when you call the Service Department and will be responsible for ensuring that information is dispatched to the right source. Nancy will also serve as a liaison to both the Director and Assistant Service Directors and will handle all maintenance supply ordering and other daily miscellaneous tasks. With her extensive office management skills, Nancy will undoubtedly help us serve the community more efficiently.

Things to Remember this Spring
Some things to remember this spring:
- There is no spring leaf collection. If you have leaves, please bag them, and set them out on your regular trash pick-up day.
- The chipper/brush collection program has begun. Please place any unwanted twigs/brush on your tree lawn for the crew to collect on your regular trash pick-up day.

Police Department Communication Center
The new Police Communications Center is almost complete. We expect the finishing touches of furniture and monitors to be installed in the coming weeks. We expect to have the space ready, and communication officers moved back in by May.

Tax Filing Day is Tuesday, April 18th
April means many different things to all of us. The month began with National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day on April 2nd (who even knew there was such a day?) and moves on to Earth Day on April 22nd, but the day that affects most of us is Tax Filing Day. Since April 15th falls on the weekend this year, and Emancipation Day, a Washington D. C. holiday, is Monday, April 17th, Tax Filing Day moves to Tuesday, April 18th.
The Regional Income Tax Agency administers all taxes for the City. They can be reached at www.ritaohio.org or 1-800-860-7482. Mayfield Height's tax rate of 1.5% is one of the lowest in our area. Income tax accounts for 65% of City revenues, the largest source of revenue for the City. It funds all City services, including Police, Fire, Service, Dispatch, Recreation, and all other departments. Additionally, the revenues generated from the 0.5% increase approved in 2020 are funding road repairs, the Sidewalk Replacement Program, and improvements to municipal facilities, most notably the new Aquatic and Community Center. Here's hoping that April showers bring flowers to your garden in May.
