Dr. Clarence Wright
(MDiv '17)
Missio Seminary is excited to welcome Dr. Clarence Wright as an affiliate professor in practical theology in the fall of 2020. After graduating from Missio with his MDiv in 2017, Dr. Wright completed his Doctor of Ministry degree from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School in the spring of 2020. The title of his thesis was “The Sunday After: Effective Preaching in Response to Current Events”—a highly relevant topic that will certainly bless the church.
A highly gifted and passionate speaker and teacher, Missio students will have the opportunity to be blessed by Dr. Wright this year as he teaches “Community and Mission”, “Advanced Homiletics,” and a one-credit seminar “Racism as Ministry Context.” He is also a nationally recognized “slam poet” and highly sought after coach in the field. He has been serving at Love Zion Baptist Church in Philadelphia for two decades, as the Senior Pastor since 2013.

In the midst of a turbulent world we were able to welcome 105 new students and see our enrollment grow from the end of last year! Praise God!
The Admissions department hired two new admissions counselors, Melody Slaton (MA '21) and Bernard Alexander (MAC ’18) in June and a new financial aid coordinator, Josh Dempsey, in July. The new staff members hit the ground running! The combined efforts of admissions and the international relations department, led by Dr. Chang Hoon Oh, brought these new students to Missio. Please pray for our incoming class as they prepare for ministry.
While the teams in admissions and international relations worked extremely hard, increased enrollment would not be possible without the broader help of our Missio community. Some key factors in recruiting were alumni referrals and generous donations for student scholarships. Thank you for partnering with us to prepare women and men to follow Jesus into the world!
We also transitioned to a new student information system called Campus Café. This new system has allowed us to streamline our application and admission process and enhance the student experience.
God is using Missio Seminary in a great way to impact and mold the next generation of ministry leaders. Please pray for us as we engage men and women who are considering seminary. Also if you know anyone who might be interested in seminary please refer them to Missio. If you are an alum they will receive a scholarship because of you! Please send their name and contact information to the admissions department or have them contact us directly. Our email is: admissions@missio.edu.

Hatfield Campus Auction - Hundreds of Items Sold
Thank you to many in our Missio Community, local residents and familiar auction buyers for repurposing hundreds of items from our beloved former campus. The sale was successful beyond Alderfer's expectations and Missio is happy to report a profit of $20,000. We continue pray that each item is repurposed to serve the next owners as well as it has served our ministry over the last 49 years.

By Drew Hart (MDiv '12)
Churches have begun awakening to social and political injustices, often carried out in the name of Christianity. But once awakened, how will we respond? Who Will Be a Witness offers a vision for communities of faith to organize for deliverance and justice in their neighborhoods, states, and nation as an essential part of living out the call of Jesus.

By Dr. Rebecca Price Janney (DMin '00)
|
Rebecca Price Janney's newest installment in her award-winning Easton Series, Easton at the Pass, is a book for such a time as this.
Battle-weary Revolutionary War hero Peter Kichline and his remaining troops have returned to Easton, a town in upheaval, as they mend from combat and captivity. Meanwhile back to the future, Erin Miles is settling into her new life in Easton, but the ground has shifted; the world they once knew and cherished has changed. What they counted on to define themselves and their purpose in life is gone, and they set out to discover, "Who am I now?"

By Dr. Rev. J. R. Briggs
(DMin '20, Affiliate Professor)
The widening of political, racial, and religious differences often leads to an “us vs. them” mentality all too common today. But is there a better way? In The Sacred Overlap, author J.R. Briggs explores how God’s divinity overlaps with his humanity and communicates a refreshing vision that embraces the tension of the both/and of God’s presence in the world and in us. Brigg calls us to live in radical love and faithfulness between the extremes that can easily isolate and divide people across the church and throughout the world.
