Ready2Teach Spring STEAM Conference Inspires Educators

Teachers became students on March 23 when a group of nearly 100 explored lessons in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) during the Spring STEAM Conference put on by our Ready2Teach program at East Los Angeles College.

Early Head Start staff joined the event along with partners like Teach LA and special presenters who guided discussions and exercises. Raffle prizes and educational materials were also provided.

“This was such a great event because it taught all of us how to incorporate STEAM into our classrooms," Ready2Teach Apprentice Liliana Avilez said. "Learning how to improve our practices and apply STEAM in curriculum helps children get a head start and expand the possibilities ahead of them."

Students and Families Experience Magic of STEAM

Students of 75th Street Elementary School created more than 140 interactive projects for a lawn game field day on March 15 that brought their knowledge of STEAM to life. Mazes, foosball tables, and ring tosses were a few of the imaginative games created by the future scientists and engineers and guided by one of LAEP's Teaching and Learning STEAM coordinators.

Meanwhile, 122nd Street Elementary School hosted a Family STEAM Night on March 21 that allowed parents and families to join in on activities. The event celebrated the impact of women on STEAM.
