From the Desk of the Director
Happy November! The Thanksgiving holiday is just around the corner. It is natural for us to stop and think about the things we are grateful for this time of year. Many of us think about the basics such as family, food, shelter, a job, and health. This year I am making a deliberate effort to recognize how thankful I am for our community.
I know community is not really the first thing that comes to mind when you are setting the table for Thanksgiving dinner. However, a sense of community can be humbling and should be recognized.
The library hosted it annual Touch a Truck event in October. Local businesses and community organizations participated in this wonderful event. Children and adults alike enjoyed the day. It wasn't until the end of the event that my heart skipped a beat and I realized what was happening right in front of me. As the vehicles prepared to parade out of Tuskes Community Park, they all turned on their sirens and horns trying to be louder than the truck next to them. I stood in awe as I saw firemen, police officers, EMTs, public work employees, and local businesses having a ton of fun and simultaneously saying, "We are here because the library is important to our community." It was a moment for me that shed an enormous amount of appreciation for each one of those people and the unique talent they contribute to our community every day.
So, this Thanksgiving season I am thankful for our community of Nazareth and its dedication and support to the library. Thank you to our volunteers, patrons, members of our Friends of the Library group, the Library Board of Directors, the township council members, and the Library Staff for making our library and our community a very special place. Happy Thanksgiving, see you at the library!
