June is National Reunification Month!
Dear Caregivers,
I hope this message finds you and our children doing well and getting ready for an exciting summer filled with summer camp opportunities, and a host of other activities to keep everyone busy and happy!
This month we’re shining a spotlight on the resiliency and strength of our families throughout the Las Vegas valley. June is National Reunification Month – a time to celebrate the power of family reunification and its positive impact on the lives of our children in the foster care system, and their parents.
In 2023, 933 Clark County families reunited with their children. That’s a total of 1,556 youth who safely returned to their loved ones because of the year-round work, commitment, and investment of time and resources by caring people in our community. Amazing caregivers, like you, play a critical role in working with birth parents, as well as ensuring that all the necessary tasks are completed in a child’s permanency plan. Thank you for playing such an important role in helping families achieve reunification!
We do understand that preparing for children to return to their families may be a challenge for some. Afterall, it’s hard to say goodbye to someone we love and cherish. If you’re seeking a few tips to help make this transition a little easier, please click here.
The most effective caregivers (whether kin or non-relatives) encourage reunification by extending their role beyond supporting the children in their care, to supporting the children’s entire family. You never cease to understand that connecting with birth parents as soon as possible, and keeping communication open and honest from the start builds a strong and ongoing partnership.
We greatly appreciate you for collaborating with CCFS and birth families to provide our kids with a solid foundation for personal growth, development, and maturity!

Sincerely,
Jill Marano

FREE MEMBERSHIP FOR HANNAH'S CLOSET SOUTH
Here is what you need to know for now: Next time you come into Hannah’s Closet, bring your placement letter and/or adoption decree and we’ll take it from there.
For this location, you MUST HAVE an appointment in order to shop. We DO NOT allow same day shopping or walk-ins. An appointment must be made at this link: https://app.vomo.org/opportunity/need-hannahs-closet at least 24 hours in advance.
Please also note that the caregivers must be the ones to show up and shop for their children. We do not allow Caseworkers, CASAs, etc. to shop. We implement this so that we can connect with families and try to plug them into community with other families and resources.
It can be confusing because Hannah’s Closet NORTH and SOUTH share the same name but have different rules in regards to shopping because we are run by two completely different organizations. We do apologize for that confusion, but are not in a position to change it at this point. If you have any questions regarding policies for Hannah's Closet South, please see the contact info below:
SOUTH: 702-546-8849 or Stacey@thehublv.com

- Special laws in Nevada require that public and charter high schools maximize the credits and progress towards graduation for their students in foster care
- Students in foster care and enrolled in High School credit classes may receive full or partial credits for a specific course without satisfying any attendance/hours in the classroom requirements for the course by completing alternative coursework
- If your child received an F in a high school class, email your School Foster Care Advocate and Child’s Counselor to see if your child might be able to receive partial credit for any HS class the child is taking
- Email addresses are available through school websites or by asking the office staff

First 5 Nevada Launches to Help Families
Being a parent can be hard, especially trying to find the programs and services that your child and family need. First5Nevada.org recently launched to ensure that every family in Nevada has access to the programs, resources, and supports they need to help their children grow and thrive.
From newborn through preschool, a child develops more rapidly than at any other time in their life. Research also shows that the quality of a child’s experiences in these first five years help shape how their brain develops. These experiences have a lasting impact on health, and the ability to learn and succeed when they reach school age and beyond. Quality early childhood development is good for our kids, good for our parents, good for our employers and good for Nevada.
That is why First 5 Nevada was created!
In Nevada, there are hundreds of programs to support child care and early education, maternal and child health, mental health, nutrition, financial assistance and more. But finding these programs, trying to determine if you are eligible to receive services, and applying can be difficult. First 5 Nevada puts all of these programs, services and resources in one place – making it easier for families to find the services they need, when they need them!
