Celebrating National Children's Mental Health Month
Dear Caregivers,
It’s February! And that means it’s National Children’s Dental Health Month – a great time to promote the benefits of good oral hygiene, because developing excellent dental health habits help children get a jump start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.
This month-long observance brings together thousands of amazing caregivers, dedicated professionals, healthcare providers and educators who are passionate about stressing the importance of exceptional oral health.
We can best support our children’s dental well-being by practicing the following steps consistently:
Schedule Appointments
Making an appointment at the dentist is one of the best ways to celebrate February's theme. The more time they spend with their dental professionals, the more comfortable they'll be when they visit. It is encouraged for children to have regular cleanings every six months. If you schedule an appointment in February, your child's second appointment will fall just-in-time before back-to-school in August.
Buy New Toothbrushes
Toothbrushes should be replaced every three to four months, as frayed bristles decrease their effectiveness.
Check on Your Child’s Brushing Technique
If your kids tend to brush their teeth unattended, take time this month to observe their brushing habits. Checking in with your kids and offering helpful tips and tricks will keep their teeth looking clean and healthy.
Setting the foundation for our children earlier in life, will set them up for success in the future.
Thank you for your love and commitment to our children and their families. Every day, you take the necessary steps to help strengthen and preserve family bonds.
We appreciate everything that you do!
Sincerely,

On the Child Haven campus, many sibling groups are waiting for a loving and caring foster home. We know that children do better when they are in homes, versus congregate care. These children have spent months on campus and desperately need your help.
It is traumatic for children to be split up from their siblings while in foster care, and we need foster parents who will help these kids stay together.
| |
CRITICAL NEED: FOSTERING Brothers and Sisters
- Typically, 2 out of 3 kids coming into Clark County foster care have brothers and/or sisters
- These siblings can range from 2 to 8 or more family members and encompass various ages and developmental stages.
- Unfortunately, around 58% of the time, brothers and sisters get separated and placed in different foster homes.
- We need to increase the number of foster parents who can accommodate entire families of children and teens in care.
Contact your licensing worker when you are ready to foster a sibling group!

We hope the 2nd Semester of the 2023-2024 School Year
is going smoothly so far!
If a Child Failed Any Course in High School, Please Check with Your Child's Counselor to See if Your Child May Be Able to Receive Partial Credit for the Course
- Under Nevada Law, each public school must create an academic plan for a pupil enrolled in ninth grade to progress towards meeting graduation requirements. For children in foster care, the plan must be revised and adjusted to maximize the accrual of credits and partial credit may be awarded for efforts the child made in the course. Credits should also be maximized for pupils taking high school courses who are enrolled in middle school/junior high as well.
-
If your child failed a course last semester in high school or failed a high school level course in middle school, contact your child’s EDM or if you are your child’s EDM, contact your child’s counselor at the school and find out if your child can receive partial credit for the course. If you have any difficulty in working with your child’s school or counselor, contact CCSD’s Foster Care Department at 702-799-1196 or fostercaretransrequest@nv.ccsd.net.
IMPORTANT DATES
Please read all of the education updates for information on if your child has been suspended, and what to do if your child reports threats, suicide, or bullying.
