POWAB SPOTLIGHTS Two Places of Worship:
Imani Temple International Cathedral and
Inner Light Ministries
See Highlights Below:

Archbishop George A. Stallings is the founder of the autonomous and independent African, Centered Catholic expression of the Christian faith known as Imani Temple which was founded
on July 2, 1989.

Archbishop Stallings is respected by many as an explosive author, speaker, preacher and charismatic evangelist with engagements all over the world. He is the Chairman Emeritus of the American Clergy Leadership Conference (ACLC) and currently serves as a member of the World Clergy Leadership Conference (WCLC) Steering Committee as well as USA Chairman of the Inter-Religious Association for Peace and Development which includes all faith expressions.
Imani Temple has been in partnership with POWAB since 2015 and has had the pleasure of hosting several POWAB meetings and two Community Health Day events. Imani Temple’s International Cathedral is located at 2420 Brooks Drive, Suitland, MD 20746. Currently, Imani’s other temples are located in Washington, DC; Denver, Colorado; Lafayette and New Orleans, Louisiana; Columbia, South Carolina; Liberia in West Africa and Kenya in East Africa. Its reach is also growing in India.

Inner Light Ministries (ILM) is celebrating its 28th Anniversary. ILM was founded on July 4, 1993, in Washington, DC. The church had its first service at The First Congregational Church located at 10th & G Streets NW with ten founding members. Bishop Yao Kwabena Rainier Cheeks ("Rainey") is the founding Pastor. He has diligently served in this role since the inception of Inner Light. In 2018 The Reverend Wallace Henry III succeeded Bishop Cheeks and serves as the Pastor, and POWAB's own Rev. Darryl! LC Moch serves as a Senior Associate Minister. Bishop Cheeks continues in the role of Bishop and Senior Pastor under the United Church of Christ (UCC).
In the beginning, Inner Light Unity Fellowship Church was the Unity Fellowship's beacon in the Washington, DC area. In April 2002 we became an independent ministry that believes in the "Radical Inclusiveness" of Jesus Christ. We are a Christian ministry based in Liberation Theology and Social Justice. We are a proud African American community, working towards the freedom of all people. This is a healing ministry for our bodies, minds and spirits in a doctrine dedicated to freeing people from dependence and dominance.
In recent years, Inner Light Ministries became a congregation under the United Church of Christ in the Potomac Association of the Central Atlantic Conference. Now, Inner Light Ministries UCC continues to be a lightning rod and a beacon of hope, inclusion, and liberation in its relationships across denominations, communities, and people through its New Thought, Metaphysical, and Liberation theologies and in practical application in service to ALL God's people regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, class, or age.
Inner Light Ministries is proud of its heritage and relationship to POWAB. Both Bishop Cheeks and Rev. Darryl! Moch is founding POWAB members and serve on the board and participate in POWAB activities.
Happy 28th Anniversary Inner Light Ministries UCC.

Inspirational Message from Tasha Moses,
POWAB Community Co-Chair

Greetings! On behalf of the POWAB Co-Chairs I want to express our excitement for all of the great things coming from POWAB in the coming months. Summer has officially begun and with the summer comes our annual signature event, POWAB-DMV Faith in Action Community Day Health and Wellness Fair which is taking place on Saturday, August 28 from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM. This signature event brings together partners from DC, Maryland and Virginia who collaborate to provide food, resources and services to the community. The Community Day event is always full of fun, faith and fellowship and we are looking for partners to help ensure this event is a success. We have a goal of reaching 500+ community members which can only happen through collaboration.
One of my favorite quotes states that “the best collaborations create something bigger than the sum of what each person can create on their own.” ~ Author Unknown.
We would love for you, your business, organization and/or faith community to be a part of this powerful event. If you are interested in becoming a partner or would like more information, please contact Regina Jefferson at regina.jefferson@dc.gov. We also invite you to join us for our monthly POWAB meeting which is held virtually via Zoom on Friday, July 9, 2021 from
12:00 - 2:00 PM. We look forward to seeing you soon! Until then, be blessed!
