Bottom Feeders or Trophy Catch?

I love to fish. However, I am one of those fishermen that is not an environmental threat. Many times, I come back with nothing, but it still is fun to try.

Sometimes, when I don’t seem to catch anything with my lures, or flies, I switch to a sure-fire method that usually allows me to catch something. I find the wiggliest worms, or the smelliest chicken guts I can find. I put them on a good-sized hook, make sure there is hefty weight on the line, and then cast it out into deep water. There it sits on the bottom. Every once in a while I will reel it back in, to check to see if the bait is still on, and cast it back out.

Rarely, do I catch a wanted bass or trout (unless they are lost or are very dumb) on that rig. I usually catch something, but it’s unwanted fish; bottom feeders like catfish, suckers, or carp — at least I can tell my wife I caught something. Most of the time my catch from the bottom is not what a fisherman is really trying to catch; and it is rarely something he would ever brag about.
I was thinking of catching the bottom feeders, after seeing a young, Christian woman’s posting on a social media the other day. She was showing off how she looked after getting ready for a first-time date. There she was in her tight-fitting dress, far from being modest, make-up that would rival many movie actors, and heels that were nosebleed high. Although I only have seen actors portraying prostitutes showing their “wares” on television, she was not dressed much differently. I was troubled about what she was doing to herself, and what she was advertising to her date.

Now I certainly would not say anything to her, but I would like to. I would like to tell her that when a person dresses like that, she would probably end up with a “bottom feeder”; one of those catches that one usually throws back, and is usually not proud of catching.
Her dress-up efforts most likely will not attract someone that is looking for a good wife, not looking for intellect, friendship, good character, a sparkling personality, and good mother for his future children. Most likely, he will only be attracted to the bait she was offering, would get the biggest bite he can get away with, and will soon swim off to see what else the bottom of the lake has to offer. Then she will be left all alone; again, more lonely and rejected than she was before, and she may even wonder where she went wrong.

A child of God should not be looking for “bottom feeders.” When a fisherman wants to catch a fish worth his time, he uses the right bait and fishes in completely different spots. To catch a desired trout, he fishes the cool, deep holes under a shaded tree. It usually does not look like a likely spot, but that is where you find them. If the goal is a lively, prized, large tail-dancing bass, then a line is cast among the tall grasses and lily pads. A Christian should not be going to the wrong, worldly places to find a mate.

Dating should not be to try to catch everything that is swimming around. That type of “fishing” often does a lot of mental damage to the “fisherman” and “fish” alike, and the result is usually unhappiness. Feelings get hurt. Moral standards get lowered. Regrets remain. Frustration flourishes, and long-time marriage goals may be compromised. Dating should be for mating. It should be an avenue to find a lifetime marriage partner.

Only the right “catch” should be sought. The right catch is one that is spiritually similar. A Christian should only be seeking a Christian as a soulmate. Marriage is a joining (“yoked”) of a man and a wife intended to be for a lifetime. Two cannot be yoked together if their relationship with the Lord will lead them in different directions. The goals and thinking are too different between a saved and an unsaved person. Often the pressures of these differences cause not only disunity between the husband and wife, but in order to silence marital problems, the Christian often changes or hides his spiritual feelings and desires.

“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?” II Cor. 6:14 Also:Isa. 52:11.

It is quite common that when a believer marries an unbeliever, that different problems arise. Much of the Bible's marriage advice is dealing with an unsaved spouse. One wants to flee sin and obey convictions placed in his heart, and the other does not see things the same way. Often sin is not recognized or seen as a problem, and it would be unlikely that an unsaved person would want to live for the Lord. There cannot be any spiritual commonality between a child of God and a lost person. A spiritual relationship is far more important than married people realize — until it is too late.

“Well, when we get married, I’ll change him,” is often the excuse. Rarely, can a person change the spiritual condition of another. It is the Holy Spirit that successfully changes anyone. Many times when a person tries to change another, regrets, resentment, and rebellion result. Unless the Holy Spirit does the work, a relationship will not flourish.

This is the reason God tells believers to only “yoke up” (work together — and marriage is a lifetime “work”) with like-minded believers. The desire of a Christian is to spiritually grow. Growth will be inhibited if a mate is not a child of God (I Cor. 5:9-13, II Cor. 6:15). Once a relationship with an unsaved person is started, it may be hard to stop it. To avoid regrettable actions, never allow yourself to “bottom feed” in the first place. A regrettable relationship with a lost person will not occur if an unsaved person is never dated.
Set your goals on a trophy catch. Go where the “trout” or “bass” is found. Never lower your expectations or goals. If you are a child of God, you deserve only the best, God-selected trophy catch, and that is God’s desire for you also.

"How Do You Need To Be Spoken To?”

"And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ." I Corinthians 3:1

I am tickled when I watch adults talk with babies. Powerful men of ministry and merchandise get on their hands and knees, sit on the floor, and say the silliest sounds to little children. No-nonsense individuals, cooing and babbling with an infant, as the baby's level is humorous. These men could communicate with great oratory and official tones, yet they communicate at the hearer's level.

Paul couldn't communicate to the church in Corinth in spiritual tones because they were carnal, as spiritual babes. He spoke to them at their growth level: adults by age, but infants in their attitudes and actions. Thus, envying, strife and divisions-these were the indicators of their spiritual growth or lack of the same(vs 3).

Many Christians need to be spoken to as babes because they are carnal and infantile. Do you envy another's accomplishments, abilities and associations? Do you struggle for prestige, possessions or preferences? Do your words, works and walk unite or divide people and their allegiances and associations? One really doesn't have to work at being carnal; it seems to come naturally. Friend, we have been endued with the supernatural, thus, we can become mature, not babes.

Let me speak "baby talk" for a moment. GROW UP! Do you lean toward carnal behavior? GROW UP! We have enough believers and babes in our churches today. Remember, "But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy" (I Peter 1:15-16). - J.O

“The Inversion Principle”, consider not following the crowd
and going the opposite direction and you might be
better off." by Roger Fulk about 35 years ago!

“Historically, most groups of people, have been wrong in their beliefs and how they do things. In the stock market, we are told to buy low and sell high. Most people buy high and sell low. This seems to be a fact of life. Consequently, if there is a large group of people going in one direction, seriously consider going in the other. If there is a rut, go elsewhere.” In other words, invert the process. This is called the inversion principle. I read this about 30 years ago in a little booklet and have never been able to find the name of the author. I even called the author who wrote the little booklet and he couldn’t remember where he got the quote.

It has been my experience in life, especially after researching and selling a number of different products and services, which most people in any particular profession or job don’t really know what they’re talking about if you take the time to research and discovered the real truth about that particular subject.

This is true, in my mind, of any subject that you would like to talk about. So how do you find what the truth really is? You have to seek out books, information, and people who really know what they are talking about. Most of the time the books and information that will help you are not readily available in libraries, bookstores, and even on the Internet unless you know the right keywords to find what you’re looking for. Usually, the people who really know what they are talking about are successful business people who have been in business for at least 5 to 10 years. About 90% of all businesses fail within the first five years, so obviously these people wouldn’t be the best to talk to. They might have some insight into why their business failed, but they might not really know why. Of the ones who are successful and still in business in reality they might not be willing to share their knowledge with you for fear of creating a competitor.

Another good source of information would be someone who does something for a hobby and is really passionate about it. The right person who does something for a hobby and really knows what they are talking about could be a very good source of information and usually is very willing to share their knowledge. An example of a person in this category might be a person who is an American history buff and studies American history as a hobby. This person might have a much better-balanced knowledge of American history than a college professor who teaches American history. As a matter of fact, recently I have been attempting to find a well-balanced textbook in American history, for an author who doesn’t have some kind of axe to grind.

This leads me to another tip on finding accurate information, the truth and where not to look. Or at least where to ask questions about your particular subject initially. This may be a bold statement on my part, but I would be willing to debate it with you based on a lifetime of research in finding the truth about a number of different subjects ranging from engineering and technology to the Bible and theology. I would recommend that you find out what they are teaching in college about a particular subject so that you can discern what the most up-to-date accurate information about that subject is probably not, yes I said not, and possibly not even the truth. Many colleges and universities skew and limit what they teach based on large donations from large corporations and wealthy people who have an agenda that may or may not be in your best interest. Plus the fact that academia is very reluctant to accept new ideas and new knowledge, even in the face of very accurate and documented evidence. Again, there are many examples of this phenomenon down through history. If you would like to know several of these examples I would be glad to tell you about them.

So, once again, “The Inversion Principle”, consider not following the crowd and go the opposite direction and you might be better off. It’s my understanding that Warren Buffett has at least one investment strategy that follows this principle. It’s been said, that he figures out what most other people are doing, and goes in a different direction. Sometimes the exact opposite direction. I think it works for him. Some people believe that the majority is always wrong!

THE BAD NEWS FIRST AND THEN THE GOOD NEWS
AND “Why Are They Booing?”
THE BAD NEWS FIRST

A recent conversation with a pastor friend. 07/16/21

I said, “The biggest problem I yet have is the fact that most of the time, I can’t find over one Baptist, especially pastors, in a room at the same time who has learned how to use proper Biblical interpretation, and agree with much of anything! I am trying to find out what appropriate Bible interpretation methods are, and no one seems to teach me! Sorry to go off on everyone… but I would like to learn! I even have a group named “Warnings about Unbiblical Interpretations USING MODERN VERSIONS!”. Very few people seem to realize that everyone can’t have a different opinion and all be right, but many of them want to continue to argue and fight about it.
Prophecy is the biggest joke with proper Bible interpretation, and I warn people about that too!
My pastor friend said, “Your observations are true- you have ten Baptists in a room and get 25 different opinions..... As for prophecy, wrong Eschatology is the common thread among all the false religion- it affects more than what most think.” Continue to the next column!
NOW THE GOOD NEWS

“Why Are They Booing?”

… because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. ” John 15:19b

The world hates our God. We are not of the world. We are on a different team. As souls are saved, our team scores and the grandstands of Heaven explode in rejoicing in the angels’ presence. For so great a cause as ours, why is the world booing? First, remember that we are the away team; we are not playing in our Home stadium. In the eyes of the world, our team wears dingy, gray travel jerseys. They will never look on us with fondness, for we oppose everything they promote. Secondly, they jeer simply because we are up to bat. If we step up to the plate, endeavoring to make an impact for Christ, the world and the devil will take notice, and they hate us.
“Reggie Jackson once said, “Fans don’t boo nobodies!”

Continued in the next column:
“Why Are They Booing?” Continued:

Another reason why the world is jeering is because we are scoring runs.
The world cannot stop the Gospel’s power to change the eternal destiny of a sinner! With each advancement of the cause of Christ comes a defeat for the opposition. Lastly, we are jeered because we are on the winning side! Our Captain assures us, “I have overcome the world.”
The enemy knows the final outcome. His team loses.
One day, we will return HOME to put on our immortal white Home jerseys.
As we enter the Pearly Gates, the cheering of our Home crowd will crescendo, and our Captain will greet us with our reward. Stay up to bat, Christian. We have Home-field advantage in Game Seven! -L.P

The Very First Story - 02/12/2021

Why Study Baptist History Short answer:

The vast majority of “Christendom” is a masquerade and built by the father of lies. (John 8:44). When satan could not defeat Christ, vanquish his Holy Scripture or martyr all Christ’ disciples ‘ol Beelzebub created a counterfeit church. By studying Baptist history we can identify the New Testament church that Christ built during his earthly ministry.
Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who cannot lie (Titus 1:2) promised the perpetuity of his church (Mt.16:18) to which he founded and built upon the foundation of the Apostles of which he was the Chief cornerstone (Eph. 2:20)Church by definition is a “called out local assembly” (ekklesia) of baptized (immersion) believers who are organized to preach the Gospel to the lost, and teach/make disciples of all professed and baptized members.
It has officers and elders as described in Eph. 4:11, 1 Tim 3:1,10; 5:17; 1 Peter 5:1,5 and has the Lord’s table (Mt. 26:28-30; I Cor. 12:23-29) & Baptism (Mt. 3:13-17; 28:19-20; I Cor. 12:13) as the only two visible ordinances and an autonomous Biblical theocentric church governance (Col. 1:18, Eph. 3:21, I Cor. 1:3;12:12).Scriptural baptism – the authority, subject, method and purpose has separated the true NT church from pseudo church organizations since the days of Romish apostasy. Countless millions of our Baptist forefathers have been martyred (many by professing “Christians”) for “the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” (Jude 1:3)
For this purpose NT churches are founded under the ordaining authority of NT churches (Acts 13:1-3, Heb. 6:1-2). When individuals start a church & baptize w/o authority they are operating by means of the earliest doctrinal divisions in Christendom. Their doctrine will ultimately reveal an invisible, universal church synonymous with salvation. (Folks who believe the body of Christ is composed of all the saved & who believe the “true church” is the realm of salvation to which they are Spirit baptized into this universal body of Christ).
Thus their baptism depicts their doctrinal root that is tied to the great whore (RCC) and her daughters (Protestants) of a federal church/state. We find many Baptists have traded the apostolic faith for the deluding influence of ecumenical, Protestant fundamentalism particularly evident since the Niagara Conferences of the 1890’s and early 1900’s of which the protestant Scofield gained much influence among unsuspecting Baptists. Since baptism was not considered a “fundamental” of the faith it was effectively marginalized and therefore “Protestantized”.
We see from Christ’s example that baptism is not simply a matter of immersion. It is a matter of God-ordained authority. Jesus Christ identified with John in receiving his God-ordained baptism (John 1:6, Mt.3:15-16). It was that same baptism that He gave to His disciples, who baptized under His authority (Jn. 4: 1-2, Mt.28:19-20).
We have external evidence that the Lord’s church practiced this ordinance from the early part of His earthly ministry. The commission came with a promise of an empowerment (Acts 1:8) on the day of Pentecost. The preaching of the word on that day resulted in 3k souls being saved & then “ADDED UNTO” the Lord’s church by means of baptism (Acts 2:41).
Many peoples in history have held to the Biblical doctrines delivered by Christ and his first church and are recognized throughout history as the Waldenses, Donatists, Novations, Albigenses, Henricians, Petrobrussians, Paulicians, Anabaptists and Baptist.
It is incumbent upon us not only to publish our history, heritage and distinctives as a beacon of light for every generation to follow but to honor those folks who have sacrificed their life and treasure for the cause of Christ and his kingdom.
To God be the glory!
