Important Calendar Dates 2024-2025

Dear Foothill Families,

Ramadan Mubarak! We had the good fortune today to hear from many of our Muslim students about Ramadan, the most sacred month for nearly 2 billion Muslims around the world. We learned that Ramadan is a period of self-reflection and focus on one’s actions and intentions, and a commitment to be a better person through prayers for a purer spirit and a closer relationship to God. Many thanks to all our Muslim families who made today’s Community Cultural Presentation possible.

You may notice some extra work trucks and equipment on campus over the next couple of weeks. Today we began the process of readying the Allen Gymnasium for the installation of an HVAC system! This campus workhorse has served myriad needs for the Foothill community without the benefit of heating and cooling. Those days are numbered thanks to the generosity of our families at last year’s Spring Gala, where we raised the funds necessary to install an HVAC system, lighting, and insulation. We are closer to realizing our dream of making the Allen Gymnasium a true multi-purpose space. Next on our needs list is bleacher seating, sound and lighting equipment, and acoustical paneling.  If you have any questions about how you might contribute to fulfilling the dream of the gymnasium transformation, please contact Director of Advancement Gabrielle Singh at gsingh@foothillcds.org.

Enjoy the warm weekend!

Warmly,

Mike Silva

Sign Up for Parent Conferences

Starting Monday, 3/11 at 6:00p.m.

It is that time again! Spring Parent Conferences will take place on Thursday, March 21 and Friday, March 22. Parents may choose their time via an online portal. Mr. Hostetler will send instructions on Monday for how to access that portal, so please watch for an email from him. Those parents utilizing language assitance will be contacted by Ms. Moreno separately. The sign-up portal will close at 11:59p.m. on Tuesday, March 19. Please note that there are no regular classes on Parent Conference days, and those days lead directly into Spring Break.

Ramadan Celebration

We had an enlightening lesson in Community today, highlighting the Muslim time of Ramadan, when the Qur'an was first revealed to the Prophet Mohammed. This period begins this weekend and extends for a month. During this time Muslim adults abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset. Several grades were also fortunate to get parent visits. In 2nd and 4th grade parents read books and discussed charity with the students. 4th grade decorated mason jars with stickers and got to take them home, while Kindergarten and 2nd grade made lanterns, symbolizing the light guiding the way.

Spaces Still Available -- Register Now!

Registration is open now! There are just a couple of spaces left in Mystery Class and in MakerSpace (pictured here, making parachutes and pipes) but there are many more classes to discover! The session begins immediately after Spring Break and continue to May 31, so registration must be complete before we leave for break.

3rd Graders Have Opinions

Check out our third graders working on opinion writing. They created polls using a collection of their favorite things then collected data from their classmates. This was added to their writing to strengthen their opinion.

Student Well-Being Survey Next Week

Students in grades 5 - 8 will be given a short 15 minute survey next week during school time. Foothill has contracted with a firm called ISM (Independent School Management) to assist us in analyzing student daily class schedules. This survey is one piece of data that will help us understand how our older students feel about their experience at Foothill, their confidence, and their time management. The survey is completely anonymous.

6th Grade March Madness

Mrs. Christensen's English students are competing in a March Madness Book Tournament. All students have made book covers, and they have already determined the sweet sixteen round of winners. Of these winners, students have provided peer evaluations to determine next week's elite eight! All students have spent the week creating book covers, writing revising, and rewriting outstanding book reports.

We don't have a bowling alley on campus...

But we can go bowling anyway. For the last couple of weeks, Coach Church has been setting up the pins for various grade levels during PE and Wellness time. We're thinking it might be time for a family trip to Bowlero during spring break!

Fluffy Slime for 1st Grade

In first grade, we’ve been studying all about matter! We’ve learned how the molecules moves in solids, liquids and gases, and have tested out different containers that help give liquids and gases their shape. Here, we made fluffy slime using all three states of matter!

Sharing Our Stories: Foothill Families

International Days 2024

This week Aanya R. (2nd) and Adam R. (K) share their colorful family trip to Karachi, Pakistan. Camels, snake charmers, and beautiful flowers were all a part of their trip. Over the Winter holidays, we asked families to tell us something about their cultural traditions. These videos were so inspiring that we thought we would bring them out of the classroom and to our whole community, via Friday Notes. Look for a new video each week!

Grogu Says a Shirt is on the Way

If you share your child's size!

Each year our school celebrates Field Day & Art Walk on the first Saturday in May. This year the theme is "May the Fourth Be With You". All our students receive a t-shirt to commemorate the occasion, but we need to know your sizes! Please check in with your Room Parent and/or respond to their email to make sure your child gets the correct size.
