We Are A Book Sanctuary

Dear Hoboken,

This week, the City of Hoboken joined Hoboken Public Library in becoming the first municipality in New Jersey to be a Book Sanctuary! We are proud to join the Book Sanctuary movement, along with thousands of libraries across North America as dedicated spaces that collect and protect endangered books, make those books broadly accessible, and educate others on the importance of intellectual freedom. Watch the video below to hear from Library Board President Jerome Abernathy and City Council President Emily Jabbour on this historic declaration.

Did you know that September is Library Card Sign-Up Month? There’s never been a better time to join the Hoboken Public Library! If you have a library card already, let your friends and families know how much the library has to offer – from museum passes and reading challenges, to access to over 5 million books and media through our catalog – there’s something for everyone! Stop by to see us at any library location, visit the BookBike, or sign up for a card online!

Regards,

Featured Title

Somewhere to Belong

by Dayton Ward

"Captain Michael Burnham and the crew of the USS Discovery are finding that each day is a critical adjustment to their new lives and new missions in an Alpha Quadrant more than nine hundred years in the future. Discovery is reconnecting with various worlds where the cataclysmic event known as "the Burn" has decimated Starfleet and, with it, the United Federation of Planets. As the crew struggles to come to terms with their present reality, their devotion to duty hides the emotional stress that could impact their effectiveness-- and even threaten themselves or others. Then Discovery picks up a distress signal located in a nearby star: a plea that harbors roots from their past lives in the 23rd century. The signal leads to an entirely new crisis, plunging them all into mortal danger."
