Moving Forward

Free green waste pickup

As the weather warms and folks begin rolling up their sleeves and removing dead grass, leaves, pinecones, and other natural debris, don't forget that the City offers free green waste pickup to all City sanitation customers!

Residential sanitation customers can schedule a curbside pickup by calling (520) 458-5775. Requests must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Monday for a pickup on the following Wednesday.

Green waste consists of items like grass clippings, tree and shrub trimmings, weeds, and cactus. Items like trash, food waste, dirt, rocks, tree stumps, lumber, or construction waste are prohibited. Green waste can also be dropped off at the City compost facility. Learn more.

The City of Sierra Vista turns the green waste it collects from refuse customers into top quality compost available for purchase! Compost is available for $25 per cubic yard and mulch is available for $10 per cubic yard (cash or check only). City staff will load your compost into a pickup bed or trailer. For more information, call (520) 452-7072.

City News

Operation Speed Bump

On March 18, the Sierra Vista Police Department began Operation Speed Bump, a zero-tolerance aggressive driving detail in the area around Arbenz Field and Stone Sports Complex.

Within the first 10 days, SVPD issued 35 speeding citations. The average speed for those cited was 28.6 mph, more than 13 mph over the posted speed limit.

With the start of spring sports, this area has a high volume of pedestrians, including families and young children–many of whom park north of the street and need to cross the road to reach the fields.

"The safety of our residents is paramount," SVPD Chief Chris Hiser says. "We're hoping this detail will deter drivers from speeding while the City explores other ways to slow traffic in this area."

The detail will continue throughout April.
