If you have any questions, please call 269-986-6295.

If your child has received a blue slip from a screening at a pre-school, daycare, or kindergarten round-up, they do not need to be seen again. Blue slips MUST be turned in to your child’s school as proof of the hearing and vision screening.

“Access to free screenings in the community will help us identify preschool/school-aged children with potential hearing & vision concerns and assist in finding them needed resources. This is a vital time as children do not always know if they can hear and see properly. It is estimated that over 1 million children are screened annually in Michigan. We, at Calhoun County Public Health Department, are happy to offer two accessible locations with a variation of days to offer our children in the community FREE hearing & vision screenings” – Chloe Lark, Child & Adolescent Health Supervisor.

Why should you get your child screened?

  • All children must have a hearing and vision screening before entering kindergarten.
  • More than one million children in Michigan will need eye care by the time they reach high school graduation age.
  • Approximately 10,000 Michigan children begin each school year without adequate vision.
  • Screening can help your child succeed in school. An undiagnosed hearing and vision problem can interfere with your child’s development.
  • Five percent of children screened for hearing are referred to a specialist. Ten percent of children screened for vision are referred to a specialist. Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent temporary difficulties from becoming permanent problems.
