FSSA Students Bring Down the House on Broadway at Shubert Festival | | |
The talented and hard-working cast of Carrie, The Musical was honored to perform at the Broadhurst Theatre on Broadway as part of the 9th annual Shubert Foundation High School Theatre Festival on March 20th.
Along with students from four other public NYC high schools, including Professional Performing Arts HS, William Cullen Bryant HS, Fordham HS, and The Beacon School, FSSA students participated in a day of theater workshops before rehearsing and performing excerpts of their plays and musicals. The Festival's house band of professional musicians accompanied the musical excerpts, including Carrie.
A lively contingent of FSSA community members attended to cheer on our intrepid performers, who brought down the house as the final performance of the evening. Congratulations to the students on making their Broadway debuts!
And get your tickets to the final shows of Carrie this weekend, folks, if you haven't yet. The word is out about how great this show is!

The Spring Auction ends this coming Sunday at 9 pm, so we thought we’d bring Leecia and Nancy back with answers to all your questions!
Dear L & N:
What is a proxy bid? I want that amazing private tour for 6 at the American Museum of Natural History, but it’s asking me to choose an exact bid or proxy bid. I would pay $400 for it, but I don’t want to if I can get it for $210… but I also don’t want to be outbid! What do I do?
Sincerely,
A Whale of a Dilemma
Dear Whale,
Who wouldn’t want that behind-the-scenes tour with the Director of The Center for Biodiversity and Conservation?! That’s just amazing! Anyway, we say choose PROXY. A proxy bid is like giving your auction paddle to a little bot to make your bids for you. You tell the bot (by choosing proxy) that you will spend a maximum of $400. Then you can walk away and the bot will bid for you! The next bid, as of this writing, is $210. The bot will only bid $210. However, if someone else then bids $220, the bot will put in the next highest bid of $230, and so on and so forth, only when necessary, in bid increments, up to your maximum (Proxy) bid. Good luck, and remember, it’s all for a great cause!
Dear L&N:
Wow, there is really something for everyone in the FSSA auction! I’ve already bid on a birthday gift, TWO holiday gifts, and a father’s day gift! There are a few things I’d like for myself, though. Can I share the link to the auction with people who aren’t part of the FSSA family?
Sincerely,
Shopaholic
Dear Shopaholic,
Please do! Forward this email to ALL your friends and family, post it to your FB and IG, make signs for your front door if you want to! You will notice that underneath and to the right of the photos there are little images to make it easier to share the item in email and on all your social media. This is a fundraiser for our wonderful school, and everyone is welcome to participate.
Gratefully,
L & N
Dear L & N:
I’ve been eyeing some of the jewelry in the auction. I’m not sure if the piece I love would match my handbag, tho? Is there a way I can see it in person?
Best,
Matchy Matchy
Dear Matchy,
Definitely! No one wants to pick up a cherished piece only to have it clash with their ensemble! We’ll be in the lobby at all the Carrie shows (three left as we go to press…). Stop by and check it out, and of course bring your questions.
Can’t wait to meet you,
L & N

| Volunteers Needed for Career Day 4/20 | |
FSSA will be hosting its first annual College Fair/Career Day Conference on April 20, 2023. However, the school can’t do it without your support! We need volunteers to shadow a classroom teacher and provide a 30-minute presentation on your chosen career field.
The purpose of Career Day is to expose students to a variety of careers in order to jumpstart or facilitate their thinking about possible post-secondary options. The Career Day presentations will take place between 8 am and 1:00 pm
If you, a family member, or friend is interested in volunteering to speak about a specific career, please click, complete and submit this google form by Friday, March 30, 2023 by 11:59pm.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jacob Dennis, College/Career Counselor, at jdennis@fssahs.org.
With your help, we look forward to having an engaging and successful Career Day and College Fair.
