Coming in July!
Hosted by the United States Faceters Guild, the 2024 Franklin Faceting Symposium will be July 25-27, 2024 at The Factory, located at 1024 Georgia Rd. in Franklin, NC.
As we meet collectively in Franklin, whether it be to learn, to improve our skills, to spend money, to mingle with those that share this love of faceting; whatever your reason, it is quite exciting to anticipate this year’s event. This year marks our 17th annual gathering and we have some very special items planned just to celebrate o We expect it to be the best ever, even after last year’s tremendous success. The details, although not 100% complete, are taking shape. I am happy to announce the following vendors that will be on site for this year’s event. We love our vendors and we thank them for their support. Without them our event would not be possible.
Confirmed Vendors at this time are as follow:
• Marsh Howard - Lightning Laps and supplies https://lightninglap.com/
• John E. Garsow - Gemstone Rough https://johngarsow.com/
• Stephen Challner - Angry Turtle Gems https://www.turtleshoard.com/
• Tom & Judy Mitchell - https://www.mitchelljewelrystudio.com/
• Dan Lynch - Gemstone Rough https://danlynchgems.com/
• Mike Gillespie - Gemstone Rough https://midlandgems.com/
• Larry Mattos - Ashton Gems https://ashtongems.com/
• Gerry Boykin – Representing UltraTec https://www.ultratec-facet.com/
• Noah Thomas – Woodlap LLC https://woodlapllc.com/
We have plans for some great hands-on opportunities throughout the show regarding dopping techniques, polishing techniques, and exactly what to look for in a competition finish and how to see it.
There will be a pizza party/prettiest stone contest on Friday evening. You will be able to enter a stone in three categories: Natural, Synthetic/Man-made, and Fantasy. Winners will receive a gift certificate for use at the show at the vendor of their choice. And yes, there will be free door prizes given away during the event.
In addition, and just as in years past, there will be an opportunity for you to buy tickets for a chance to win some very nice prizes. So, you won’t want to miss that.
Joining us again this year will be Gerry Boykin and Larry Mattos. Both have tremendous knowledge about concave and fantasy cutting techniques and will have their Ultratec Fantasy machines on hand as they demonstrate and answer
questions.
I am also very excited to welcome back the Ultra Tec Team, as they will be in the house. They are both excited to join us, meet you, and answer your questions about their tremendous line up of faceting equipment.
Joining us again this year will be Tom Mitchell, as he will be teaching a faceting class the first two days of the event, Thursday and Friday. Last year’s class was quite successful, and there have been numerous requests to repeat it again.
There will only be room for 6 participants to take this class, and they will need to provide their own machine, light, and equipment. If you are interested in taking the class, here is what you need to know now. The registration fee for the class is $125 for USFG Members, and $150 for non-members. If you aren’t a member, it just makes sense to join. At $18 per year, there is a plethora of information on the website, and that in itself is a deal.
Participation in the class is again limited. As we get closer to the event, there will be a separate posting made on the USFG Facebook page announcing the class. So, if you aren’t already a part of that group, please join and be on the lookout for that announcement.
We still have numerous opportunities for those who have an interest in participating, presenting, and/or supporting this event, so please reach out to me via email and he will connect with you directly. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you in Franklin.
Doug
