Students may view a copy of their schedule online which will be posted, Tuesday, August 9th through their PowerSchool account. To access your child's PowerSchool account, you will need to first set up the account. Information on how to do this will be emailed to all families by August 6. If you have not received this email by August 8 with directions on how to set up the account, please contact our technology department.

Technical Support Contact:

If you are missing a class period or are scheduled for a class twice, please email or see your counselor, Mrs.Gonzalez in the main office on the first day of school during the period with the error. Otherwise, there will be no schedule changes during the first week of school.

Free breakfast and lunch!

For the 2022-2023 school year, the State of California is mandating the Universal Meals Program at all schools in the state. With the Universal Meal families need to fill out a Meal Application form, which was part of the online registration package. SMUSD will be offering both breakfast and lunch. Please encourage your students to come and grab a free lunch and a free breakfast daily.  SMUSD will be using the Point of Sale system to record the meals for lunch, therefore please remind your students to memorize their 5 Digit lunch number (student ID number). This will help expedite the meal service.  For the first week of school the lines may be a bit longer than usual as students may have forgotten their lunch number. If you have any questions, please contact Munira Bengali at mbengali@smusd.us or 626-299- 7000 ext. 1323.

We will have our first monthly webinar meeting for HMS parents with our Principal,

Mr. Topalian on Thursday, Aug. 25th at 9:00 AM via Zoom!

Student Connectedness to HMS Campus Life

HMS events, activities and athletics play a huge part in the overall development of our students. We want our students to stay connected to all the wonderful and interactive school events and activities that are available to each student. Students will be notified of school events and activities with a Schoology notification or an email to their student Gmail account. HMS students and families are also encouraged to frequently visit the HMS school website.

Reminders

Attendance:

Parents, the attendance online absence form on the school website is for explaining absences. If your child has a disagreement about an absence on a particular day/period, please reach out to the teacher first.

Late arrival/Early departure:

If your student comes late to school, even if it's 5 minutes late, the parent and the student need to check in at the front office.  Your written confirmation needs to be documented and a slip is given to the student to present to the teacher.

Same process for picking a student up early from school.  Parent must come in to the office, present ID and sign the student out, to ensure the student is going home with an approved guardian.  Thank you for taking a few minutes to help us maintain correct attendance and safely monitor our student's whereabouts.

NO LUNCH DROP OFFS.

Complimentary breakfasts and lunches are available every day in the cafeteria.

Due to COVID restrictions we need to limit the number of visitors to school. If your child forgets his/her lunch, please do not bring it to him/her. They can eat from the cafeteria for the day. For the latest information please visit our SMUSD site here

Cell phones are not to be on or in student's possession from 8:00-2:50. Keep them POWERED DOWN and in the lockers.

Keep our campus clean:

Please remind your students to throw away their food wrappers/containers at snack break and lunch. Thank you for helping us keep our campus clean.

Textbooks/Chromebooks:

Students are responsible for the textbooks and Chromebooks they check out. If a textbook or Chromebook is damaged so it cannot be checked out anymore the student is responsible for the full price of the replacement, plus shipping and handling.

Computers may only be used in class at teacher's direction. Keep them closed and away from the lunch areas and food.

Letter from the PTA President

Dear Fox Families,

The start of a new school year is always an exciting time in our household, and this year it’s even more exciting for us as I step into the role of HMS PTA President. We have been a proud Fox Family since 2018 when my eldest, now a SMHS sophomore, started 6th grade. This year, my youngest starts his HMS journey while my second is preparing for his to come to an end.  In that past year, we have often heard the term “return to normal.” While we may not know exactly what “normal” looks like, I look forward to working with Principal Topalian, Assistant Principal Hazlett, and our PTA volunteers to return to treasured traditions such as pancakes at Hauntington Breakfast, Outdoor Education, in-person PTA meetings, and so much more.  This year, I have the honor and privilege to serve alongside an amazing roster of Executive

Board members comprised of continuing, returning, and new HMS parents.  Thank you to these parents for taking a leadership role within the PTA.

Executive Vice President: Sri Abboy

First Vice President (Programs and Calendar): Daisy Wilson

Second Vice President (Membership): Magnolia Ycasas

Third Vice President (Ways and Means): Becki Watlington

Hauntington Breakfast Creative Chair: Cathy Newton

Hauntington Breakfast Business Chair: Christine Song

Parent Party Creative Chair: Vivi Wahl

Parent Party Business Chair: Renita Lin

Spring Fundraising Business Chair: Nina Darling

Spring Fundraising Creative Chair: Carmen Vishwanath

Recording Secretary: Ada Wong

Corresponding Secretary: Christina Trauber

Treasurer: Lauren Shen

Financial Secretary: Stefanie Killackey

Auditor: David Wang

Historian: Mei Wong

Parliamentarian: Marisa Kelly

Our exceptional school, teachers, and programs thrive because of the support from parents and community members through their time and generous donations. From Teachers’ Wishlists to 6th Grade Dances and everything in between, there is an opportunity to participate or donate in any way you can. I invite you to get involved, join HMS PTA, and together we can build an

incredible “normal” at HMS this year.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Kang

2022-2023 HMS PTA President

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"
If you would like to run your company or organization's publication in Fox Facts, please email it to mhazlett@smusd.us by Thursday at 4:30 of each week to appear in the following week's Fox Facts.
