Summer Cervantez

Ms. Cervantez is a gem for the faculty and staff at HMS.  She is the number one substitute teacher the staff and students count on.  Her professionalism and wide range of knowledge allow her to enter any content area classroom and deliver a high quality learning experience for the students.  Beyond the classroom, Ms. Cervantez is a fervent leader who is the advisor for two of the top HMS academic teams on campus, Mock Trial and Math Team.  Due to her popularity, her three summer school courses, Mock Trial, Model United Nations, and The Wonderful World of Rube Goldberg, fill up quickly.  As you can see, Ms. Cervantez is well respected by the faculty and staff of HMS and deserves to be recognized for her selfless acts of kindness and service to our students and the San Marino community.

Eleen Hsu-Wentlandt

Eleen has proven herself as a student-focused leader who has transformed our Foxes into the casts and crews responsible for our incredible HMS musicals.  Under Miss Eleen’s mentorship, students have stepped up to not just sing, act, and dance, but also choreograph entire numbers, run the microphones, design and execute the lighting, change the stage sets during the productions, and even help with building the sets and creating costumes.  She loves teaching children theater and music, exercising her creativity and mentorship skills, and is a huge Harry Potter fan, chocolate lover and power napper.  Eleen’s truly an angel worthy of this year’s Halo Award!

Michelle Macedo

Mrs. Macedo began teaching Art and joined the HMS Visual and Performing Arts Department in 2008.  Since that time she has been instrumental, leading the way as a top visual and fine arts teacher in the San Gabriel Valley.  Her dedication to her students is evident by the quality of work they produce and by the numerous Visual and Fine Art awards won by her students.  Mrs. Macedo has served as the HMS Yearbook Advisor, facilitates Arts Rock, and has served as the Visual and Performing Arts Department Chair for the past 6 years.  Furthermore, Mrs. Macedo supports numerous activities outside of class such as encouraging students to create playbills for the musical productions, taking them on a field trip for Art Rocks at SMHS, and working with PTA for events like Hauntington Breakfast to display kids’ artwork and art competition.  When asked to participate or support events outside the classroom Mrs. Macedo has been a good sport and supportive of all things visual and creative arts.

Amy Morris

Name any event, fundraiser, or program at HMS and you’ll probably find Amy Morris’s name on the committee roster or volunteer list.  From Hauntington Breakfast to Band Boosters to back-to-school photo and book pick up day, Amy has done it all.  If you have a child that graduated in the last few years, it’s very likely that they enjoyed candy from her 8th grade graduation candy bar which she will be creating one last time for her youngest child as he moves onto the high school.  Amy will surely be missed at all of our events!

Helen Phan

Helen has contributed countless hours to HMS, donating her coveted graphic design skills for numerous PTA events over the past 6 years along with being a faithful community volunteer.  She has always been incredibly caring and thoughtful when it comes to giving back to her community and giving the luckiest Love Bird of All Time, her family pet Nugget, his very best life.  Helen will be greatly missed as this is her last year at HMS, but her legacy will live on through the hopeful graphic design students she mentors and her many sought-after designs, including our new HMS Halo award graphic.

Christine Song

Christine has dedicated her life to serving others as a compassionate physician and residency teacher.  Co-chairing this year’s Hauntington Breakfast, Christine was the ultimate multi-tasker and problem solver – even when the problem was figuring out how to make 1,200 pancakes without the industrial equipment past events relied upon!  Despite her busy schedule, she finds time to spoil her friends with little surprises, birthday gifts, and makes amazing homemade mochi.  Christine is an inspiration to all those who know her, and her commitment to HMS is remarkable!

Patrick Stopford

Mr. Stopford began teaching Social Studies at HMS in 2014.  Since 2014 he has established himself as a top 7th grade teacher for Social Studies.  His love for Harry Potter and Star Wars is a wonderful connection with his students. His teaching strategies are effective and engaging.  This is immediately evident when you step inside his classroom.  Beyond Social Studies, Mr. Stopford guides students in podcast productions called HMS Fox Tales.  Not only is Mr. Stopford a wonderful teacher, his lunch hangouts and summer school filmmaking classes have been among the highlights for many HMS students. He is a teacher who truly goes above and beyond in connecting with students well beyond the classroom.

Becki Watlington

Becki’s HMS volunteering career began with 6th Grade Dances in 2019.  Since then, she has brought her signature Southern hospitality and style to a myriad of volunteer roles at HMS.  She is the chair of the choir boosters, served on the PTA Executive Board for multiple years, served on fundraising committees and is always the volunteer to help step in wherever needed – from last minute emceeing duties at the Hauntington Breakfast to leading the New Family Orientation.  We look forward to her Southern spin on the Parent Party next year!  Congratulations on a well-deserved Halo award.

Elsie Wong

An inpatient pharmacist during the day, Elsie has consistently gone above and beyond in her service to the HMS PTA.  Elsie's creativity and dedication to Hauntington Breakfast resulted in custom family gifts that have become prized possessions for patrons. Despite the challenges of planning the event during the pandemic, Elsie's “Nightmare before Christmas” wreaths were a huge hit and brought our community together in a very tough time. This year her lanterns with family names themed like Disney villains were in high demand.  Her creative crafting at home includes making her family's elaborate Halloween costumes every year and love of baking.  We’re grateful for Elsie’s dedication to HMS!

Magnolia Ycasas

Magnolia Ycasas is a loyal HMS volunteer known for her excellent work and infectious smile.  Her ingenious creation of multiple costumes for the Frozen Jr. Musical and leadership with the Hauntington Breakfast art exhibit enabled HMS art students to participate in the event in a meaningful way.  She has also served on the HMS PTA Board, co-chaired the HMS New Parent Orientation and created our digital directories.  When she’s not hard at work volunteering, Magnolia enjoys K-Pop, K Dramas and is a HUGE Disneyland fan.  Magnolia Ycasas exemplifies the HMS Halo Award spirit!

Cindy Yung

When Cindy’s not busy working as a clinical pharmacist and posting beautiful pictures of her family, friends, dogs and food on social media, she stretches her time even further as a longtime school district volunteer.  She has served as a Hauntington Breakfast Committee Chair and not only co-chaired HMS Career Day for the past 2 years but went above and beyond, elevating the event by putting in extra time and effort to recruit a broad range of professionals to showcase for our students.  Cindy Yung embodies the overachieving Titan Spirit as a San Marino High School alum and HMS parent volunteer!

Free breakfast and lunch!

For the 2022-2023 school year, the State of California is mandating the Universal Meals Program at all schools in the state. With the Universal Meal families need to fill out a Meal Application form, which was part of the online registration package. SMUSD will be offering both breakfast and lunch. Please encourage your students to come and grab a free lunch and a free breakfast daily.  SMUSD will be using the Point of Sale system to record the meals for lunch, therefore please remind your students to memorize their 5 Digit lunch number (student ID number). This will help expedite the meal service.  For the first week of school the lines may be a bit longer than usual as students may have forgotten their lunch number. If you have any questions, please contact Munira Bengali at mbengali@smusd.us or 626-299- 7000 ext. 1323.

Student Connectedness to HMS Campus Life

HMS events, activities and athletics play a huge part in the overall development of our students. We want our students to stay connected to all the wonderful and interactive school events and activities that are available to each student. Students will be notified of school events and activities with a Schoology notification or an email to their student Gmail account. HMS students and families are also encouraged to frequently visit the HMS school website.
