Sacrament of Reconciliation

To help prepare for Easter, we will observe “Reconciliation Monday” on Monday, March 25, 2024, along with churches throughout the Diocese of Brooklyn, Rockville Center, and the Archdiocese of NY. On that day, parishes will offer extended periods for the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation (aka Sacrament of “Confession” or “Penance”).

We will celebrate a communal penance service (with confessions) at Assumption Church at 7 pm. Confession will be available during these times in our parishes on Monday, March 25, 2024.

New Film about Mother Cabrini to be Released

On March 8 (International Women’s Day), “Cabrini,” a film about the life and work of St Frances Xavier Cabrini will be released at over 3,000 theaters across the nation. The film tells the story of the incredible odds and obstacles this Italian nun overcame as she and her other sisters worked to serve the waves of Italian immigrants coming to the United States as well as other parts of the Americas in the late 19th and early 20thcenturies. In 1950 Pope Pius XII named her the patron saint of immigrants. The film stars Cristiana Dell’ Anna as the saint herself; John Lithgow as the New York City mayor; and David Morse as the archbishop of New York. Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuFkt3w-7kI

Scam Awareness

The New York City Police Department’s scam awareness educates the public about various schemes criminals use to target and exploit people, steal their money or other property, and cause incalculable harm to individuals, families, and communities. Police personnel assigned to answer the hotline, 646-610-SCAM, will guide callers in responding to scams, educate them about additional resources, and refer them to services, including 911, for crimes requiring a police response. This month's Scam Alert covers gift card awareness. See https://bit.ly/4aFVyPC
