Dear Hospice Supporters,

Thank you to those who were able to help out at our Canada Day information booth.

We’ll also have a booth at Pride in the Park on August 12th and at Blackberry Festival on August 18th. If you’d like to volunteer for a shift at either of these events, here are the links to sign up. These opportunities are open to all our members!

Pride in the Park –
Blackberry Festival –

We don’t have any big fundraising activities taking place over the summer, but mark your calendars for Saturday, October 7th, when there will be a Beer & Burger night at the Carlson Club! This event is not hosted by Hospice, but the proceeds will all go to Hospice. There will be a silent auction, live music and all kinds of tasty food. If you’ve attended one of these events in
the past, you’ll know you’re in for a great time!

Congratulations to Sarah Joy Herzog, our Client and Volunteer Coordinator, who was recently named the Woman Employee of the Year by Coastal Women in Business! Sarah Joy is typically
the first person from Hospice that a new client speaks to, as she manages referrals, conducts an intake interview, matches the client with a volunteer, and then follows up along the way. She’s a great support for all our volunteers. Sarah Joy provides and coordinates our annual training sessions for new volunteers as well as organizing monthly continuing education and support meetings with our current volunteers. Well done, Sarah Joy! Your work is very much appreciated.

Along with our new name, logo and website, we’ve changed our e-mail addresses from to If you’re trying to reach a staff person or a board member and you inadvertently use the old address, it will redirect to the correct address and send you a note asking you to update your contact information.

Thank you again for all you do in support of Four Tides Hospice Society. As always, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like further information on any hospice-related topic.

Update from our Fundraising Committee
Did you know that Four Tides Hospice Society does not receive any regular returning municipal, provincial, or federal funding? Our programs are financially sourced via grants, donations, and fundraising. That is why meeting our fundraising target is so important: they ensure program stability.

The Four Tides Hospice Society Fundraising Committee is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing fundraising activities and events. Currently we are focusing on fundraising for operations; though in the near future we will be incorporating fundraising for Hospice House.

Our current biggest initiative is a video all about hospice and Hospice House – made in collaboration with the amazing Claudia Medina.

We have a great schedule of upcoming fundraising events. There will be a Beer & Burger night coming up on October 7th; later in the fall and winter we are planning a tailgate party, a fashion show, a raffle and/or an online auction with amazing prizes. Watch for merchandise for sale with our new logo! We will post upcoming activities and events in the newsletter, on our website, or our Facebook page.

Currently our committee is comprised of four board members, one staff member, and one society member. If you are interested in joining our committee, contact our vice president, Malerie. ( We definitely put the “fun” in fundraising and we would love to welcome new members!
