District Roundtable October 11

The Constellation District Roundtable is back! After a restructuring break, the first of our quarterly, in-person Roundtables will be on Tuesday, October 11 at 7:30 pm at Sacred Heart Church, Havertown, PA in the Knights of Columbus Room in Everett Hall (105 Wilson Avenue, at the corner with Manoa Road; Everett Hall is the building to the left of the church; enter through the main doors on the street).

Our theme for this Roundtable is Membership and Recruiting. Leaders and Committee Members from Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, and Venturing Units are encouraged to join us to:

  • Learn how the District can help your recruiting efforts.
  • Get ideas on how to promote your Pack, Troop, or Crew.
  • Discuss options for Family Cub Packs and female Scouting in the District.
  • Share your ideas and experiences with other units.
  • We'll also distribute door hangers for Scouting for Food, and can field any questions about the collection process.

Now that Roundtables are only once every three months, we hope you can make a special effort to join us for learning, sharing, and fellowship.

Cub Scout Fall Fest

Thanks to the excitement about Fall Fest, we have filled the first three days of program and

WE ARE ADDING A FOURTH DAY OF FUN!!

Scouting for Food Collection - November 12 and 19

November is just around the corner, which means it is time for the annual Scouting for Food drive, one of the biggest service projects of the year. All Packs, Troops, Crews, and Ships are encouraged to be part of helping families in need. Some important notes about Scouting for Food for 2022:

  • Door Hangers will be available for pickup at Roundtable on Tuesday October 11, 7:30 pm at Sacred Heart Church; or contact Kate to arrange a different pick-up.
  • Door hanger distribution by Units is scheduled for November 12 &13, 2022.
  • Food Donation Collection is scheduled for November 19, 2022. As in past years, collected food can be dropped off at St. Mark's UMC at 2220 Sproul Road in Broomall from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm that day.
  • Units are encouraged to customize the back of the door hangers with unit identification and information on how to join their unit. Remember that we are now Scouts BSA!
  • Our District Coordinator is Kate Hiebert. Please send her the name, phone number and e-address of the Scouting for Food Coordinator in your unit as soon as possible to help coordinate our efforts. We have a map (visible here) to show areas typically covered by Units in our District; there are lots of areas available for your Unit to help out.

Last year the District collected over 7 tons (15,000 items) of food. The need in our community is great; let's see if we can collect even more this year.

District First Aid Derby

Join us on the morning of March 11, 2023 for the District's annual First Aid Meet.

Patrols representing Troops and Crews throughout the District can challenge the Scout's abilities to perform first aid in simulated real-life situations. The patrols will compete in practical first aid problems, working together to plan and perform hands-on first aid skills.

District Safety Minute

With the Fall weather turning cooler, evening campfires become even more fun with their warmth.  Scouts will start to get closer and put their feet up on the fire ring, making them more susceptible to stray embers (from dried leaves in particular) and possibly melting the bottom of their boots.  Now is a good time to review campfire safety with your Scouts.  Enjoy the chill !!

Fun Fact to Know

Although the number Troop 122 first officially appeared in 1952, chartered with the Rotary Club of Westchester Pike, its history dates back to the early 1930s as Local Troop 1 of Newtown Square, affiliated with the Newtown Baptist Church and the Newtown Square Fire Company. For over a half-century it was with Messiah Lutheran Church, until moving to St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Broomall in 2016.
