Fall is in the Air!
A word or two from your Board of Directors…
After the heat of summer, there is nothing more welcoming or refreshing than the first cool days of fall. There is an unmistakable change in the air, a promise of vibrantly colored autumn leaves, Friday evening football games to attend and celebrate with school families and friends, and open campfires with roasted hot dogs and the makings of s’mores to enjoy at family fun-filled week-end gatherings. And…as the days grow increasingly shorter, fall culminates with a final invitation for all of us to return to the warmth of our homes as the upcoming months of winter draw near. Fall is truthfully a period of breathtaking changes and a definite favorite season for many.
For ADSOEF, fall is our favorite season, as it is that time of the year when we announce and launch our annual donor campaign and theme. Since early August, the Fundraising Committee has toiled and been exceedingly busy, preparing for this pivotal ADSOEF fall funding the future of excellence in education event. Without giving away too much more information or disclose further details, we encourage you to read the following Fundraising article in Foundation Matters.
All is well at the Foundation…happy fall everyone!

Planting Seeds for the Future
The Alpha Delta State Ohio Educational Foundation is all about funding the future of excellence in education for the DKG/Ohio State Organization. In 2022-23, the OSO/ADSOEF Scholarship Committee granted $37,300 in student teaching grants, scholarships, and fellowships. The Educational Services Committee distributed $1,500, from the Individual/Classroom/Community Project Fund, and granted $1,680, from the Lifelong Learning Fund.
Our Ohio State Organization will be celebrating its 86th birthday/anniversary on January 22, 2024. While many changes have occurred in education the past 86 years, OSO continues its mission and long-standing tradition of utilizing funds of the Esther H. Strickland Student Teaching Grants to support collegial students enrolled in state university education programs throughout the state of Ohio. ADSOEF also supports the OSO/ADSOEF membership with various project grants, leadership and lifelong learning funds, scholarships, and fellowships. The Alpha Delta State Ohio Educational Foundation simply enjoys supporting and funding excellence in education!
The ADSOEF Fundraising Committee is delighted and pleased to announce Planting Seeds for the Future as its 2023-24 donor campaign theme, with a goal of raising $8,600 in recognition and celebration of OSO’s 86th anniversary. Each and every member can help to support this goal by making contributions from now through June 30, 2024. Below you will find the Contribution Form and the electronic link for your future donations. Gifts may even be made in memory of or in honor of someone special to support the ASDOEF mission in “funding the future of excellence in education.”
Let’s…you, me, all of us…continue this wonderful tradition of giving to support Ohio’s current and future educators!

Educational Services Committee
The Educational Services Committee is pleased to publicize this final report from JoAnn Krock, Zeta, about the Inspiration Station Library Project. All teachers love books, correct? So, our hearts will be uplifted when JoAnn describes how the grant was spent.
Chris Snoddy
Educational Services Chairman
“The ADSOEF Community Project Fund has enabled Inspiration Station, a free, afterschool tutoring program housed in a donated building adjacent to the Hispanic neighborhood in Norwalk, Ohio, to greatly expand its on-site library. The Fund allowed for the purchase of 8 biographies, 26 science books, 12 social studies books, 39 animal books, and 9 reference books. The library is now 94 nonfiction books richer thanks to the ADSOEF Community Fund! Also, 2 nonfiction emergent reader booklet sets were purchased. The new nonfiction resources have photographs of high interest topics for beginning readers and up-to-date copyrights for middle grade readers.

Welcome Aboard Barbara Smith!
Barbara (Barb) Smith was approved and appointed as an ADSOEF Director on September 18 and serves on the Nominating Committee. Her term as a board of director will conclude on June 30, 2024. She is a long-standing member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Zeta chapter in Huron County around the Sandusky/Norwalk area. She was initiated in 1976, forty-seven years ago, and has served in virtually every official capacity at the chapter and state level with the exception of being treasurer. Barb was elected and honored to serve the Ohio membership as the Alpha Delta State President in 2005-2007. She continues to be an active member of her chapter and DKG/Ohio.
After receiving the news of her ADSOEF Director appointment, Barb stated, "I'm proud to be DKG. It's such a part of my life! Some of my most rewarding moments are the international friendships I made through work on the A. Margaret Boyd Overseas Fellowship Program. Olena Yasnetzski, from Ukraine and I have been in weekly contact for 17 years. Helping women educators is a prime concern of mine.” No doubt, Barb will continue to affect change as a valued and involved member of ADSOEF. Welcome aboard Barb!

Alpha Delta State Ohio Educational Foundation
Needs YOU! YES, YOU!!
The membership of ADSOEF, which is every member of OSO, will elect new directors in April 2024. The Board consists of ten directors, one half of which are elected each year. Therefore, five Directors will be elected next Spring.
Being a director gives you a deeper understanding of how the Foundation works, the importance of ADSOEF and all the good ADSOEF does for its members and those going into education. Maybe you think it is too early to even consider being a director since elections are six months away, BUT in reality it is never too early to consider becoming involved in ADSOEF!
For more information search adsoef.org for the Director Description and Application and/or contact a member of the Nominating Committee. Stay tuned, for more information in next month’s edition!
