Foster care alumni receive help -- and a blanket -- at Emerge
Foster care alumni participating in the unique Emerge Emancipation Program in Xenia, Ohio receive help developing skills necessary to transition successfully into independent adults. Students live in temporary housing while receiving vocational training, life skills enrichment and wrap-around services.
Thanks to our Blanket Angels, each student receives handmade twin bed blankets to use in their room at Emerge and to keep when they graduate.
Blanket Angels who live in the Xenia area can drop off blankets (only single bed size, please) at Emerge, 2960 W. Enon Rd., Xenia. Doris Edelmann, 937-572-7632. Read more
Sobering statistics about life after foster care

About 25,000 youth age out of foster care in the U.S. annually. Within four years of aging out:

  • 50% will experience homelessness.
  • 25% will not have completed high school.
  • Less than 12% will ever earn their college degree.
  • 70% will be on government assistance.
  • 50% will be unemployed.
  • Those who are employed make an average annual income of $7,500.

Although there are more than 34 million entry level jobs nationwide, many foster youth aren’t prepared to be independent and don’t have the skills or resources needed to access the opportunities that could launch them into employment.

Do you advocate for children in foster care?
If you are a caseworker or advocate for children in foster care, we would love to provide blankets that you can share with kids who could use something to hold onto. Just tell us how many you need. 614-530-3327 or info@myveryownblanket.org
We have new Blanket Angel partners in Northeast Ohio!
We are very pleased to have new partners in Northeast Ohio at echoingCONNECTIONS, which offers adult services and growth opportunities for individuals with various levels of abilities.

As a part of our Sponsored Blankets Program, echoingCONNECTIONS clients can volunteer to make no-sew fleece blankets that have been sponsored by donations.

The blankets will be delivered to foster care agencies in the Canton/Akron area. We welcome these new Blanket Angels!
Rotary competition provides almost 5,000 blankets
Thousands of children in foster care will receive handmade blankets thanks to members of Ohio Rotary Clubs. Members of Ohio’s five Rotary districts provided blankets for 4,966 children in foster care in this year’s All-Ohio PETS Competition.

Members of the Circleville Noon Rotary Club, shown at left, hold blankets they made during the competition. They will be donated to Pickaway County CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates, volunteers who represent children who have experienced abuse or neglect. Read more
