Connect Newsletter

August 2023

In 2024, we will gather together once again for General Assembly, our biannual gathering for business, fellowship, and worship. Our theme for this gathering is Formed to Follow, and it invites us to view discipleship through the lens of growing in our faith to pursue Crist in all things.

This view of discipleship can be seen in many of the stories in this newsletter:

  • A congregation in Guatemala is investing in the spiritual formation of the children in their church.
  • In a recent blog, Kevin and Barb Kelley share how God moved their hearts to serve refugees in Greece.
  • Our workers in the Middle East are following God’s leading to bring new child protection trainings to their country.

These stories dedication to personal discipleship and a desire to guide others in their own faith walks. May they encourage you in your own discipleship journey as you are formed to follow Christ.

General Assembly 2024!

We invite you to join us for General Assembly 2024! Our theme, “Formed to Follow,” invites us to press into our identities as disciples created to follow God. Just as the Lord formed Adam and Eve, so we are designed by our creator and shaped by our relationship with him. Out of this formation, we follow him to love the world and share the redemption he offers. We hope you will join us for this gathering next summer.

Help in Crisis - Caring for Refugees

As Kevin and Barb Kelley watched news coverage of the global refugee crisis in 2015, God moved their hearts for the people in these dire situations. In a recent blog, they reflected on God’s calling for them, their work in Greece, and how their perspectives have shifted. Read more »

Child Protection Trainings

An important element of our ongoing refugee care work in the Middle East is child protection trainings. Through these trainings, our workers create space for hard, important conversations and offer healing prayer, spiritual connection, and growth. In the past eight months, over 70 people, most of them refugees, have completed the training, and many more will participate soon. Learn more »

Classrooms for the Kingdom

The Villa Nueva congregation in Guatemala has a passion for discipling entire families, especially children. Their intergenerational small groups give them many opportunities to do this; however, where they gather on Sundays lacks space for children's ministry. Help create a space for ministry to the next generation through our new project! Learn more »

"Rules for Killing a Church"

The Evangelical Visitor was the BIC’s denominational paper from 1887-2007. While digging through some old issues, we discovered this satirical article published in February 1923; it was too good not to republish 100 years later! Read more »
