Esperanza Health Center e-News - DECEMBER 2021
|
|
On December 1, our staff celebrated World AIDS Day by wearing red in honor of those living with HIV. In the words of an Esperanza staff member, World AIDS Day is "a day to remember our family, friends and patients who have died of HIV (many of whom have gone to be with Jesus...); a day to realize that even though we've made huge strides, people are still getting infected with HIV every day, still suffer awful stigma, rejection and discrimination because of their diagnosis, and people around the world still lack access to life saving medications. But it is also a day to hope for a cure and for justice, equity, and equal access to life saving treatment." On this day, we rejoice at the progress that has been made in HIV treatment, and remain committed to the fight of ending the HIV epidemic!

CELEBRATING 10 YEARS IN HUNTING PARK
A message to staff from Susan Post, Chief Executive Officer
|
|
I have been reflecting a little on the 10th anniversary of the opening of our Hunting Park site as the presence of Esperanza in these past ten years has had a profound impact on my life and my neighborhood.
When we were building this site, we had a time when the staff could write on the walls of the building as they were constructing it. On the wall that was to be my office, I wrote Phil 3:9-10 NIV: "I want to know Christ, yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead."
It made me think about all that has gone on in this building in these ten years. We have seen the power of Christ's resurrection in our lives and our patients' lives, and we have also participated in the fellowship of His suffering as we walk alongside our community and help them carry their burdens. It is a sacred in which we get to participate.
In all of this, we have had the gift of knowing Christ through this important work. We come here to serve, but God has a beautiful way of giving us Himself in the midst of our serving. He gives us precious gifts in our patients and we get to see Him at work. It is a joy for me to see God at work in you, our patients and neighbors.
Often my neighbors tell me of some way Esperanza has particularly blessed them or their family. They mention some of you by name, or by where in the health center they met you.
Thank you for loving our neighbors and for being the hands and feet of Christ. Thank you for being God's people. May you know Him more and more as we see Him at work in our world.
Below is a PowerPoint slideshow with pictures of our staff and the scriptures we put on these walls that day at Hunting Park. I think you will enjoy it!
Blessings my friends,
Susan
