tell the story of four pillars of the mission and message of Habitat for Humanity: Two-by-Fours"; “H.O.P.E. Letters That Spell Hope"; "All Roads Lead Home"; and "Building Community."
In this last collection, Vilkin has selected the painting titled "Terra Cotta Shelter" as the signature painting of this exhibition and its mission. While a portion of each sale proceeds at this exhibition will be donated to support Habitat Santa Barbara, for the signature piece, 100% of the sale proceeds will be donated to Habitat Santa Barbara ($750).
Habitat for Santa Barbara's mission strikes home with Vilkin. “My career was in real estate primarily as a home builder, and I understand how a home functions as an emotional foundation in people’s lives,” said Vilkin. “And if I didn’t understand it before, when we lost our home in the Jesusita fire, the impact of being rootless was driven home for me.”
"We are thrilled to be in partnership with Michael and so humbled by his generosity of spirit in giving back to Habitat in such a significant way," said Jessica de L'Arbre, CEO of Habitat Santa Barbara. "His painting and his philanthropy really embody the spirit of community that we strive to cultivate ."
Although the in-person event will be held on August 4th, the show will run through August 8th. In addition, Vilkin has provided an online gallery of his work for those unable to attend in person, and any art purchased from this collection will benefit Habitat Santa Barbara, even if it is purchased online. The artwork included in the fundraising exhibition may be found on Vilkin's website MichaelVilkin.com in the gallery titled "Art for Humanity Fundraiser”, and is available to see and for purchase beginning Friday, July 26th through Thursday, August 8th.
The exhibition opening event will be held in the Fox Wine Co. tasting room from 3 - 6 pm with complimentary lite bites, and options to purchase select wines. Fox Wine Co. will host free live music from 4- 6 pm in the courtyard, which is both dog-friendly and kid-friendly. For more information on “Art for Humanity”, please visit sbhabitat.org/events.
