ATLANTA, 2-13-2019 - It’s another rare, rich and robust Atlanta Preservation Center Tree Planting . This time, community organizers will plant a heritage Nyssa Sylvatica tree at Frederick Douglass High School on Frederick Douglass’ 201st Birthday in celebration of the 50 th Anniversary of Frederick Douglass High School—it’s past, present, and future.

On Thursday, February 14, 2019, David Mitchell of the Atlanta Preservation Center, Halley Beagle of GardenHood Plant Atlanta and Community Organizer Chris Brown of the Frederick Douglass High School STEM Community Outreach, along with students and staff members are extending an invitation to you to join them in observance of the 50 th Anniversary of Frederick Douglass High School—it’s past, present, and future initiatives.

It is strategically important that we pause to commemorate the 50 th Anniversary of Frederick Douglass High School—it’s past, present, and future with a heritage “Tree of Life” planting. The Butts-Hill Tree of Life will be dedicated to Dr. Lester W. Butts and Dr. Samuel L. Hill. The only two Principals for the first 33 of the 50 year history of Frederick Douglass High School.

"Honored guest will speak about the impact of Frederick Douglass High School and it's influence on our entire society. The North Star News Paper will announce it's relaunch with a new Atlanta Voice Community Partnership and mentoring initiative", says Chris Brown a respected Atlanta Community Organizer. “We look forward to hearing what our diverse and distinguished attendees and participants have to say.”

This event marks the celebration of both the 50 th Anniversary of Frederick Douglass High School and the 201st Birthday of Frederick Douglass . We invite you to join us along with others at Frederick Douglass High School National Historic Site at 10:30 AM.

We have invited local, along with national leaders who will watch the Butts-Hill Tree of Life planting and celebrate the past present and future heritage of Frederick Douglass High School. The observance will provide attendees the opportunity to record their own testimonies to contribute to the documentation of how this era of change impacted them and their families to this present day.

Brown, explains that, “This event is symbolic of 50 years of observing the highs and lows for Collier Heights Historic District and its people of various lifestyles and challenges. Some of its implications showed us how good life could be as well as how barriers and downfalls often engulf us. Over these 50 years, the community seen the best and the worst of times. On Thursday we are inviting our alumni family members and community supporters.”
