Volume 9 Issue 3

Your child's teacher will be sending home a TRANSITION PLAN during this month which will detail how we will assist your child in adjusting to school. Please add to the plan since you know your child best! If there are concerns you have, add those in the appropriate area. If there are suggestions that you have, add those as well! Together we will help your child adjust to PS/PK! ASQ screening results have been sent home (if you submitted yours for scoring. Teachers use those scores to assist with the transition plan as well as lesson plans.

Positive ways to manage everyday challenges

Little children can have BIG emotions. And that can mean meltdowns, bedtime battles and aggressive behavior. Parents and caregivers need positive solutions that really work, for all kinds of situations.

  • When children get better at things like routines, sharing, and getting along with others, family life gets a lot better.
  • Children gain valuable life skills like problem-solving to help them now, and in the future.
  • Children can learn to talk about strong emotions and handle them calmly.

Triple P can support you with strategies that take some of the challenges out of family life, leading to happier, calmer everyday living

Triple P Positive Parenting Program

Triple P is highly recommended by our own Ms. Leona (building consultant from Unison).

You will be hearing a lot about Conscious Discipline this year! We are on year 2 of implementing new techniques. As we continue through this year, we will share what we are doing and why it is important. Before school started, we had a trainer come to school and work with us for two days. It was truly important for us to start our year off by recommitting to this approach.

One thing that you may have noticed or heard about is our Greeting Ritual. Connection is the key to cooperation. Connections are made throughout the day with children and faculty but it begins with our playful greetings. Fist bumps, high fives and other greetings, along with eye-contact and a smile help start the day with a connection. It also helps a child feel safe and welcomed. Please create your own goodbye ritual for dropping off or even your own greeting ritual for pickup!
