Welcome aboard the DMS Board

Arlen Meyers, MD, MBA New DMS Board Member

Give a warm welcome to

Arlen Meyers, MD, MBA

It became official at the DMS Annual Meeting and Dinner on November 18, 2023: Dr. Arlen Meyers is our newest DMS Board member. Dr Meyers is a retired professor of otolaryngology, dentistry, and engineering at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical campus and President and CEO of SoPE, the Society of Physician Entrepreneurs (next in-person meeting link below). He has founded several medical device companies and is also the cofounder of a medical tourism company. His primary research centers around biomedical and health innovation and entrepreneurship and life science technology commercialization. Dr. Meyers is a Fulbright Scholar and a former Harvard-Macy Fellow.

Dr Meyers is very excited to join the DMS Board and bring innovative ideas and programs to our members and partners.

On a personal note, Dr Meyers is a lousy golfer, a terrible cook and spends time with his wife, Kathleen, chilling in Silverthorne.

Why don't you join us at Dr. Meyer's next SoPE meeting? In person, Thursday, January 11, 2024, 7am - 9am, at the CMS offices, 7351 E Lowry Blvd, Ste, 110, Denver, CO, 80230. Topic/Speaker: Meagan Watson, Program Manager of the Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) Clinic in the Non-Epileptic Seizure (NES) program in the Neurology Department at CU Anschutz, and Board Chair of FND Hope USA. Reminder: MATE Act Training Requirements for Physicians with a DEA License to Prescribe Sched II, III, IV, or V

The new training requirement under the MATE Act are only for physicians with a DEA license that allows them to prescribe controlled substances under schedules II, III, IV, or V. This requirement went into effect on June 27, 2023. This is not opioid training specific, but substance use disorder training to ensure all prescribers of addictive medications have a baseline knowledge of evidence-based prevention and treatments. Any prescribers who had X-Waiver training may use that to count towards the new 8-hour training requirement. The 8-hours does not have to be completed in a single course.

This is a one-time requirement at the time of license renewal or for an initial license. It is an attestation by the provider on their application form.
