EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, TERRY WILLIAMS, OCTOBER LETTER
Congratulations to everyone who entered the 40th Annual Excellence in Journalism Awards.   With another record number of entries - 300 more than we anticipated - we had to reach out to additional press clubs to get our judging done.  So it's completed and we are happy to announce the winners.  As you know, you will find out exactly what you won at the awards event on October 29th.  This event has been at capacity for the past four years and it will again so get your tickets now!

A fun thing!
We are doing something different for the awards slide show this year.  As our club was started in 1973, we are asking all of you - winner or not - to send us a picture of yourself in 1973!  Send to: sdpressclub@cox.net

If you weren't even born yet, just send early photo and let us know the date.

See you soon at the party of the year!

2013 Awards Winners Announced

The first "San Diego Press Club Journalism Awards Contest" was held on September 17, 1974 at the Press Club headquarters, the Le Baron Hotel (long-since incorporated into the Town & Country).  Forty-two awards were presented and the awardees include some names still involved with the club today - Don Harrison, Tom Gable, Bob Witty, Manny Cruz, Lee Louis, Jack Lane, Hal Clement, Reid Carroll and even our founder, the late Andy Mace.  And amazingly enough, many Charter Members are still on the roster - even the first president, Jack Gregg.

The 40th Annual Excellence in Journalism Awards on October 29, 2013 will be a rich mix of tradition and celebration in pure San Diego Press Club style.  If you have attended the past couple of awards events, you know that the refreshing format of mixing and mingling and just enough ceremony has made the Awards the must attend event of the year.   You also know that the SD Hall of Champions was getting a just a little squeezey for us.

The beautiful Jacobs Center at Market Creek will be the venue for this year's awards and will feature, as always,  San Diego's finest restaurants, regional wines and beers, a silent auction, and a fun evening rubbing elbows with friends.    So put the date on your calendar now - Tuesday October 29th.

The Excellence in Journalism Awards Honorary Committee was started in 2009 by former president Barbara Metz.  It's a great committee to belong to - no meetings, no responsibilities, no deadlines - just basking in the glory, gratitude and recognition.  The Honorary Committee helps the club support the members with programs such as the Nuts & Bolts events and helps the club keep the prices for events low.  And the Honorary Committee for this year's awards is now up to 74 members!  It's not at all too late to get your name on this list.  Click here to see how.
