FOCUSED ON PUTTING MORE MONEY INTO CANADIANS' POCKETS

April 3, 2020 Dear Constituents, As residents of our constituency focus on their health, the health of their loved ones, and how they’re going to pay their bills, my Conservative colleagues and I have focused on putting more money into Canadians’ pockets. There are now a number of new federal initiatives to help Canadians during the coronavirus pandemic. The Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) is providing $2,000 per month for those who are laid off or can’t work due to COVID-19. Families will see a temporary boost to the Canada Child Benefit. And the government is delivering increased funding to the provinces for health care. Demanding Action on the Federal Carbon Tax

Demanding Action on the Carbon Tax This week, my Saskatchewan CPC Caucus colleagues and I wrote to Finance Minister Bill Morneau to demand that he freeze the scheduled increase in the federal carbon tax. Canada Emergency Response Benefit Portal Opens Next Week

The Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) applications portal opens next week. The date you can apply for the benefit is determined by your birth month. It is recommended that you sign up for a CRA My Account now and make sure your direct deposit information is updated and current to avoid delays. Small Business Needs Credit Unions To Get Money "Out-The-Door!"

Conservative Members of Parliament are calling on the Finance Minister to allow all credit unions to deliver the government’s promised $40,000 emergency small business loans. Businesses across Canada need cash now. The hundreds of credit unions across Canada can get it out the door. It is time for the government to open the door to competition and let credible unions save cash-starved businesses. There are 239 credit unions in Canada, but Export Development Canada, which is administering the program, considers only 11 of them “approved lenders” - excluding 95% of credit unions. That means the charter banks will have the privilege of delivering almost all the loans with little competition. Thousands of small businesses that rely on credit unions will not get money unless they switch over to banks. The government has promised them $40,000 loans. All financial institutions, especially local credit unions, should be employed to get the money out the door, and into the hands of our small business owners. Many rural, small business and western companies rely on credit unions instead of the chartered banks. Some of our rural communities do not even have bank branches. The government should open up competition now and let hundreds of credit unions help save millions of jobs.

MY STATEMENT ON THE LEGISLATED PAY INCREASE FOR MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT

I wanted to share with you my official statement on the legislated pay Increase for Members of Parliament: The legislation giving Members of Parliament an annual pay increase, which took place on April 1st, was introduced by a former Liberal government in 2005. While individual Members of Parliament cannot stop the current legislated pay raise from going forward, we can decide what to do with the increased pay received. Therefore, I am donating any increase in pay I receive to a number of local charities in our constituency. This will help assist our community during this very difficult time. I will also be sharing the names of CRA registered charities located in our constituency on social media and in future issues of the Hoback Herald.
