A WORD FROM OUR GM

Saying goodbye to the last of our Christmas guests was certainly bitter sweet. For our first Christmas at The Ranch, it was considered a great success. The smaller groups made for a more intimate experience for all. It was great to catch up with old friends, and create new relationships. 

The Flying U welcomed it's first December guests in fourteen years this year, and what a time we had! The weather stayed cold, but it did not deter guests from enjoying the festivities in daily hay-rides, horseback riding, and tobogganing. 

With the close of the holiday season however, we are also now looking forward to the spring! We have a record number of reservations with returning guests, and are looking forward to welcoming each group anew. With an extended season it's been a particular pleasure of mine to work with different groups and individuals to create custom events from weddings to AGM's and corporate retreats.

PRE-SEASON BOOKINGS

Join family, friends, and staff old and new to kick off the season. Early May is truly and incredible time to visit the race; we can expect our first heat spell (last year temperatures exceeded 27 degrees!), the horses are fresh from their winter break and offer lots of spunk and personality, plus, the quieter weekends ensure lots of attention from our wonderful staff!

If your a horse enthusiast, you cannot beat a May reservation; the horses all receive a 'tune-up' under our wranglers, and new projects are started with lots of round-pen work. Come learn from some amazing wranglers - or even participate in an afternoon of desensitization on our custom built equine obstacle course!

STAFFING

BRANDON WATRICH 
Brandon has recently come on as a part-time ranch hand to assist Steve and Taylor with the horse care over the winter. 

Brandon grew up in the Cariboo, and has strong family ties to the area. His great-grandparents were the Gamie's, who ran the ranch for many years. Brandon has spent many summers on Green Lake, helping his uncle move cattle, and knows the area like the back of his hand. 

Brandon will be a great asset come spring when we will continue to develop new trail systems. Brandon is especially keen to spend time on horseback, and is looking forward to April when we bring the herd in for the spring.


INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Learn the fundamentals of hard work while cultivating your future with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work on Canada's oldest guest ranch!

We're looking for a few mature youth and young adults  (16-19yrs) to join our team for internships in the following areas:
  • Equine and small livestock husbandry
  • Hospitality and customer service
  • Grounds and property maintenance
  • Small-scale marina and airport maintenance 
Room and board is provided with a full meal plan, and recreation package. Accommodation is onsite, semi-private, and sex-segregated.
