Henry Goldin

When did you start swimming at the YWCA?

I began swimming with the YWCA Flying Fish in 5th grade as a Redfish.

What is your favorite Flying Fish memory? You can have more than one!

My favorite Flying Fish memory is playing card games on the pool deck during swim meets at UIC.

What will you miss most about swimming at the YWCA?

I am going to miss weekend relays between the older and younger swimmers.

What are your plans for next year?

I am planning to study computer engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Anything else you want to say to young swimmers, parents, coaches or anyone else?

To younger swimmers I would say: the practices you want to miss are the practices that are important.

Max Taufen

What is your favorite Flying Fish memory? You can have more than one!

My favorite FF memories are my first Charlotte meet and the training trips.

What will you miss most about swimming at the YWCA?

I will miss my friends, the community, and the coaches.

What are your plans for next year?

I will be swimming at Macalester College.

Anything else you want to say to young swimmers, parents, coaches or anyone else?

Have fun!

Thank you for being part of Oz Week!

Whether you participated in the Oz Memorial Meet, swam in the Oz Relay or donated separately to the Oz Fund, thank you for honoring the memory of Oswald "Oz" Roper last week.

These activities raised more than $20,000 for scholarships to our swim school. We couldn't have done it without you!

What's the difference between long course and short course?

Long course refers to a pool that measures 50 meters in length. The standard size for international swimming (including the Olympics) is 50 meters. Typically, swim meets conducted in the U.S. from the end of April through August are long course.

Short course refers to a pool that measures 25 yards in length. Generally, meets conducted in the U.S. from October to March are short course. The YWCA upstairs pool is a short course pool.

The Flying Fish coaches do not recommend long course meets for beginning swimmers or those with little meet experience.
