We know you all are in the midst of midterms and papers. Remember to take breaks - nap, get a massage at a REST Zone, cook up a healthy and delicious meal, go for a walk or work out, or hang out with friends!
Choose your costume wisely. Choose a costume that allows free movement. Make reasonable choices in masks and wigs to avoid blocks in your vision.
Make a plan and stick to it. Set your drinking limit and stick to it! Know yourself and your limits and count your drinks. Alternate drinks with water.
Use the buddy system. Decide who you're going out with and who to stick with and rely on. If you have to walk home after dark, walk with at least one other person and stay on a well-lit path. If you're near campus, you can call Bear Walk at (510) 642-WALK.
Be kind but cautious. You can be kind to strangers wearing costumes without letting your guard down. Be especially cautious when strangers are wearing costumes that hide their faces or alter their voices in any manner.
Watch your drink. If you're going to drink, do so responsibly. Never accept a beverage from someone you don't know. Never leave your drink unattended. If you step away for even a few seconds, get a new beverage.
Trust your instincts. On Halloween or any other night, if something "just doesn't feel right" trust your gut instinct. Leave the party, don't accept the drink, or just say no to whatever it is that's making you uncomfortable. Your safety is more important than a party or possibly upsetting a friend.
Make sure your phone is fully charged and make sure the volume is turned on in case a friend is trying to reach you. Your phone could also be your safest way to get home and find your friends.
