Fitchburg Police Bicycle Unit Assigned
bike cops - stockFour Fitchburg Police Officers have been assigned to the Bicycle Unit. The officers will supplement their daily patrol with the use of police mountain bikes. Officers will transport their bikes on bike porters attached to their squad cars. The bike patrol will participate in community events like Fitchburg Days, Festa Italia, and Bike Rodeos. Officers currently assigned to the bike unit are Peter Johnston, Jasara Gerhke, Nick Cleary, and Ryan Jessberger.

Voluntary Sprinkling Restrictions for the City of Fitchburg

Due to the dry weather, water usage from lawn sprinkling has been much greater than average. In order to assure that there is an ample supply of water reserved for fire protection and domestic use, the Fitchburg Utility District is asking that you do not sprinkle your lawn until this dry period ends.

ANOTHER BOOST FOR NORTH FISH HATCHERY ROAD REDEVELOPMENT

Efforts to spruce up the North Fish Hatchery Road corridor will get another shot in the arm with the renovation of Associated Bank at 3002 Fish Hatchery Road, at the intersection with Post Road. The bank's renovation will add offices, a waiting area, meeting space and a break room, in addition to landscaping and completely refurbishing the exterior, said representatives of the bank at the June 19 meeting of the Plan Commission. 
 
Several other projects are also slated for the area, including the remodeling of McDonald's, construction of a 288-unit apartment complex and the extension of Post Road. read more 
WEBSITE KEEPS PEOPLE INFORMED ON FISH HATCHERY/BELTLINE INTERCHANGE PROJECT
Construction on the Fish Hatchery Road/Beltline interchange began on June 18 and is scheduled to be completed by September 2013. The project will involve the reconfiguration of the north half of the Fish Hatchery road interchange; reconstruction of Fish Hatchery Road, Greenway Cross-Petra Place; widening and raising of the Fish Hatchery Road bridge over the Beltline; and pavement resurfacing of the Beltline at the interchange. The estimated cost of the project improvements is $13,500,000.

NINE SPRINGS DEVELOPMENT--FIRST DEVELOPMENT WITH SMARTCODE ZONING

Future Lacy RoadConstruction work in the Nine Springs Development, located north of Lacy Road and east of Syene Road, began in April of this year. This is Fitchburg's first development under the SmartCode zoning district. SmartCode is a zoning code designed to enable, where appropriate, walkable, mixed-use neighborhood, and yet, still protect valuable open space. 

 

As a SmartCode development, Nine Springs will be a diverse community in its form, scale and function. Designed to foster multiple modes of transportation, enhance the public realm and encourage a mix of uses, the development will meet a variety of needs including productivity, convenience, beauty, and diversity. It is designed with the pedestrian in mind with a network of sidewalks, trails and cycle paths throughout. download a map of the development

NBA STAR WESLEY MATTHEWS VISITS BOYS & GIRLS CLUB 
Matthews announces he will be riding in the Bike 4 Boys & Girls Club on July 21

NBA star Wesley Matthews, a former Madison Memorial and Marquette basketball player, stopped by the Boys & Girls Club on Tuesday.

The Portland Trailblazers standout joined officials from Trek and Dream Bikes to speak to Boys & Girls Club of Dane County members and supporters about bike safety and the importance of year-round training.

 

Matthews also formally announced his participation in the annual Bike 4 Boys & Girls Club event, a 25-mile bike ride around Madison on July 21st to raise money for the club and awareness. watch the video
