Friends,
This past weekend was filled with the Spirit! On Saturday, we had a blast tabling at Placer Pride with our sister church, Loomis First UMC, to spread the good word that all are really welcome in our communities of faith. Some folks were surprised to see inclusive and welcoming churches present, especially because there were some not-so-nice voices causing a ruckus across the street with hateful and judgmental messages. Thankfully, those voices did not last very long while our welcoming witness endured through the entire event.
As a member of the LGBTQ community, I understand why so many are hesitant when it comes to Christian churches. Many churches hide behind ambiguous language like "All are welcome," but then preach or practice harmful theology. Clarity is important.
That was my intention in yesterday's State of the Church Address. Clarifying and perfecting our mission statement helps us, and the larger community, know where we stand and what we are about. This will help us with our decision-making about our administrative tasks, our budgeting process, our use of the property, and our outreach efforts. With clarity of mission and purpose, our church will be able to be in greater harmony in proclaiming, in word and deed, the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Let us ask for the Spirit's guiding and scheming as we prayerfully discern God's purpose, mission, and dream for First Church Roseville.
Blessings,
