Friends,
This past weekend was full and, as your pastor, my heart is full of joy, pride, and gratitude for the ways First Church Roseville is putting its faith into action. We had great church representation at the Community Meeting on Homelessness with so many of our friends from various service agencies and advocacy orgs like The Gathering Inn, WWJD, Placer People of Faith Together, and the Roseville Advocates for the Homeless.
I was moved by the documentary produced by our very own Kathleen and Cameron (well done, team!) and I was inspired by Placer County Supervisor Bonnie Gore who showed us the possibilities for real solutions while addressing ongoing challenges towards that progress.
It can seem overwhelming when we think of the many causes of homelessness and the political rollercoasters to get to long-term and sustainable solutions. But, I have hope when I think about the title of this meeting that includes the words "Working Together." We cannot do this alone. Together, each doing our own part and finding ways to support each other, we can bring into existence a community where there is a place for everyone.
See you soon!

In Case You Missed It: Community Meeting on Homelessness & Blessing of the Animals | |
|
We had an amazing turn-out for Saturday's Community Meeting "Working Together to End Homelessness in Roseville" organized by the Roseville Advocates for the Homeless. Highlights included the very moving video testimonial produced by our very own Kathleen Mirtoni and Cameron Banghart and hearing from our Placer County Supervisor Bonnie Gore. The video will be uploaded online shortly.
On Sunday, worship was held in Backman Hall with all sorts of non-human creatures joining us for the Blessing of the Animals. It was great to welcome our furry and feather friends and gift them a "Certificate of Blessing" for participating in the service. Together, we collected several items of pet food to be donated towards the Pet Food Pantry at Placer SPCA, which is available to Placer Co residents in times of need.

Update on the Restore, Reinvest, Rejoice Campaign
Friends, it was brought to our attention that the Kanable Endowment Fund is classified as irrevocable, meaning that the church can only withdraw up to 5% from it annually. Instead, the funding for these projects will now come from the T. Patterson Minney Endowment Fund that is also designated for major maintenance and will cover the necessary expenses. This means that contributions that are made to the Restore, Reinvest, and Rejoice Campaign will go to replenish the T. Patterson Minney Endowment Fund for future use. If you have questions about this change, please reach out to Dave Sechrist, Thom King, or Eleanor Kenitzer.

Pastor's Book Club returns in October to discuss Jesus and the Disinherited by Howard Thurman
Join Pastor Angel on Tuesdays, starting October 15, at 6:00 p.m. either in Heritage Chapel or on Zoom to discuss Howard Thurman's Jesus and the Disinherited.
Famously known as the text that MLK sought inspiration from in the days leading up to the Montgomery bus boycott, Jesus and the Disinherited helped shape the Civil Rights Movement. Hatred does not empower—it decays. Only through self-love and love of one another can God's justice prevail.
You may order your copy through your favorite online book distributor or local bookstore. Just use the ISBN below to get the same copy (so we can all be on the same page, literally!).
