Thank you Eric for recognizing the importance of and communicating this student's health needs!

Marinette High School Student Senate hosted their annual Senior Citizen's Day celebration on October 18th. The event included performances by the Choir and Marching Band, and concluded with our students serving yummy treats in the library while attendees engaged in conversation with one another and played Bingo! It was a fantastic event that provided time for our students and senior citizens to share in celebration and share experiences together! #EveryMarineEveryDay

MR. DRAHEIM:

Dear MHS Families!

Greetings from Marinette High School!  Hard to believe we are almost finished with October!  Time always flies by! I have a few reminders below that we will be discussing with students the first weeks of school.

First, we want to make sure that all students are staying current with their school work and getting assignments in on time.  Please check your student’s Canvas or Skyward for current grades.   Our first term will be finished on Thursday and Friday will be the first day of term 2.  We also want to remind you and all students to use our Anchor Hour as a time to get caught up or go in for extra help. As we get closer to cold and flu season and the possibility of students being out sick it’s important to get in those habits early.

Second, I wanted to remind all students/parents/guardians that it is so important to get a strong start to the school year with positive attendance.  Please help us by monitoring your student’s attendance and making sure they come to school every day, unless they are sick.  Checking a couple times a week is a great way to stay current with them in Canvas and/or Skyward.  If you need any help with this or log-in information, please call our High School Office for support.  We will be reinstituting our positive attendance initiative like we did last school year.  Those students who have perfect attendance will be recognized with food and prizes, including a Golden Ticket prize!  The only excused absences we will be recognizing for this will be for a school event.

Third, as a reminder the bell to begin first block is 7:50 am and if students come to school after that it will be logged as a tardy or a late in their attendance.  This will also count towards habitual truancy so it is very important that students arrive on time.  We will continue to open the front doors at 7:20 am so they are able to get breakfast if they choose and have time to eat in the commons before it’s time to get to class.  Our attendance rate and the number of tardy students to first hour are not where we want them, but we feel this can be improved.  Starting second term, we will be having students do after school detentions if they are late to school with no note or phone call.  Student detentions will last until 4 pm so it’s important for students to be on time for school.

Finally, if you have a student who drives to school, please remind them they need to register for a parking permit every year.  When they fill out the form and get signatures, they will be issued a new parking pass.  Let’s continue to make this a great school year!  Go Marines!

Sincerely,

Matt Draheim

Assistant Principal
