The Sweetest Day of the Week!
Join us for another feel good Saturday on the riverfront. Strawberries officially hit the scene this week, and the veggie line-up is growing as summer draws near. Check out our crafters and guest vendors, relax at a table with your favorite scone and coffee, enjoy some market music, or soak up the peaceful river vibes. And be sure to bring the kiddos because it's Barnyard Day! Read on...
Barnyard Day
We've got some special guests! Come meet our barnyard friends this week... an alpaca, bunnies, chickens, sheep, and goats - including the famous “Hammy” a Nigerian Dwarf baby goat from The Bubbly Goat!

Kids can take part in a history scavenger hunt that starts at the market and takes you through town. And they can try their hand at some common farm chore at the Sigal Museum. Stop by the Sigal Museum Tent (just past the Flour Shop) to learn more. Or click here.

Enjoy some toe tappin' tunes with Dave Fry too. Oh, and be sure to grab some animal friend stickers for your little ones at the INFO tent on your way in.

Grilled Pizza

One of my favorite fast dinners is (surprise!) pizza. But with a fridge full of fresh stuff from the EFM, I knew I had to cook at home. Luckily, it’s the best time of year: grilling time! I grabbed some fresh pizza dough from Scratch (most pizza places will sell you dough if you ask!), stretched it, and threw it on a hot grill. A few minutes later, I had a nice crispy base. I decided to top mine after cooking (more of a flatbread style) but you can certainly go the hot topping route by adding toppings before you grill. I ended up with dollops of truffle sheep cheese from Raspberry Ridge, steamed shaved asparagus and pickled red onion, plus a glug of olive oil and flaky salt. It was perfect, and I had a perfect night to sit outside and enjoy my dinner. Hooray for summer!
FRESH PICKS OF THE WEEK
From the Field
Cabbage Throw Farm
Cabbage Throw Farm will be bringing a bumper crop of French & Red Radish this weekend, as well as Hakurei Salad Turnips. Both will be offered at a buy one, get one half off mix & match sale. Market sales provide a great opportunity to experiment with easy canning & pickling recipes so you can preserve the season's bounty. They will also be bringing their full line up of salad greens, cooking greens, scallions, herbs, microgreens, carrots, Bok choy, Tatsoi, dandelion greens and more.

Lacto fermented Spring Roots Recipes

Slice French breakfast radish in half long ways, cut scallions into 2 inch pieces, peel and slice a couple cloves of garlic and add in any fresh herbs of your choice (thyme, tarragon, bay leaf, etc). Add all your ingredients into a 16oz. mason jar and fill with 1 tsp pickling salt dissolved in 1 cup water. Make sure all veggies are completely submerged in liquid and store on your counter until you have reached your desired taste (at least a week or so) This recipes works great for shaved carrots, slices turnips and more. Store in the fridge for months after fermentation.

For Bath, Body & Home
Teels Hill Soapworks
We have come a long way from the way they made soap on the farm back in the 1800's. Made from animal fat, wood ashes, and water, the fat had to be boiled (refined) and the wood ashes leached for a weak lye solution, known as the hot process method. Susan does cold process methods for her soap - easier and way more fun! For Barnyard Day, Susan is featuring Bacon Soap (made with lard and bacon drippings), Milk and Honey (a goat milk enriched soap with honey added), and her Honey Rosemilk (made with buttermilk, honey and natural beeswax).
