and transformative service,
rooted in Love.
Liberal Religion
From the Minister

On June 2, we will have our "Annual Pride Service". Members of our community will join me as we kick off Pride Month with a service of celebration and remembrance.

On June 9 we will have the "Annual Flower Sunday". The Flower Celebration is one of our denominations' most treasured rituals which was originally developed in the early 20th century by Rev. Norbert Čapek, who founded the Unitarian Church in Czechoslovakia. In this last service in the sanctuary, before the summer begins, we will celebrate our year together.

Bring a flower or a bunch! In this tradition, practiced by Unitarian Universalists for 101 years, we celebrate the beautiful variety among us and gratefully receive a flower that someone else has brought.

Peace,

Erin

Thank you to Mary and Charlie for hosting the choir party.

The choir will be on hiatus for July and August.

On a special note: I want to clarify my future plans, as there has been some confusion. This next year ( 2024-2025) will be my final year as Music Director at First Parish.

June 12 or June 26 Vine Bar Pride Trivia Celebration - The Vine Bar is celebrating Pride month by hosting two evenings of Pride Trivia in June following the success of this event last year. Reservations are needed.

Special Monthly Collection - Donations to the plate on the first Sunday of June will go to the Summer of Sass program in Provincetown in honor of Pride month. The goal of Summer of Sass (SoS) is to offer LGBTQ+ young adults, aged 18-20, a summer getaway in an accepting environment where everyone is free to be themselves. SoS was featured in the podcast “Welcome to Provincetown.” Participants are often from oppressive areas in the US where they may be bullied or not accepted by their families due to their sexuality and/or gender identity. SoS finds each person a job and provides them a place to live. The participants commit to working from Memorial Day through Labor Day in Provincetown and are expected to pay a portion of their living expenses. Since the release of the podcast, an anonymous donation made it possible for SoS to purchase a house in Provincetown, eliminating the obstacle of finding affordable rentals for the visiting young adults but also creating additional needs for donations to maintain it. You can donate during the 6/2 worship service, through the First Parish website with Summer of Sass in the notation throughout the month of June, or by going directly to the donations page of donations page of SoS website.

June Meeting of the Social Justice Committee - Please join us on Thursday, June 20 on Zoom from 7 - 8:30 pm. Included in this month’s agenda will be the June 29 pride Breakfast, plans for the summer and new church year in the fall.

Building and Grounds
Adopt a Gardening/Landscaping spot for the summer!
Thanks to all who helped last year keep our Church weeded and brimming with beautiful flowers!

We will once again invite any families or individuals to choose an area to call their own. Weed, prune, and plant. Your own schedule. A nice thing to do on a summer evening.
Reducing Energy around First Parish

We just completed the switchover from fluorescent to LED's in the old sloop room. It will be less maintenance and lower energy use. Small steps forward, watch for more to come!

Anyone interested in assisting in these efforts call/Text Erica
.
Thanks!

Erica
