God called the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt to a new life. We are moving towards the cross and Easter, where Christ calls us from slavery and sin to a better life. As we prepare and journey to the empty tomb, what is God calling us from today? Do we need to put down bad habits, addictions, or toxic relationships? Do we need to pay down our debt or spend less money to simplify our lives and lower our stress? Let’s form an exit strategy, so we can travel lighter and move more freely towards abundant life.
After Moses killed the Egyptian slave, he ran into the wilderness to escape. There, God took care of him by providing him with a family and means to live. However, God eventually called him back to the very place he had escaped from for a greater purpose. In our own lives we are called to remember that God gives us second (and third, and fourth…) chances.

Mexico Mission Trip
June 11-16
Did you know that a typical family in Acuña, Mexico earns $60 a week, oftentimes being employed by a local factory? With an average family size of four, this income is barely enough to survive and provide for their most basic needs. Public education is not free, causing families to struggle to provide the money needed for uniforms, books, and tuition. Due to the lack of income, there is rarely any money left over to purchase materials to help build adequate housing. Families often use scrap materials and anything they can find to build homes to shelter their families.
We are partnering with Casas Por Cristo, a nonprofit that helps build homes for families to help relieve the burden of housing so that the families can focus on providing food and other essentials to their families. Together, we will build a home for a family during the time frame. Our group will drive from First Grapevine to Mexico and help construct a simple 2-3 bedroom house. The total cost will be between $800-1100 per person, depending on the size of the group, which includes meals and sleeping accommodations. We need at least nine additional people to go on this mission trip and serve. If we do not have nine more people attend, we will have to postpone it to a later date in the fall. If you are interested in attending, please register below, as it is not too late. Please let us know before March 31. This is a low-commitment, high-impact mission trip. If you have any questions, please email Pastor Allen Lutes (allenl@fumcg.org).

Lenten Trees
If you're still trying to figure out what practice you'd like to incorporate for Lent, we have an opportunity for you. In the Atrium, Narthex, and Children's Ministry Welcome Center, we added "Lenten trees." On the tree's bare branches, you may hang pieces of paper with different ways you can grow closer to God during this season. You're invited to find one that speaks to you and take it from the tree. We'll have the trees up for a few weeks starting on Ash Wednesday. If you'd like to view the full list of practices, you can find it here.
