First Act KC May Newsletter: Hello!

Dear First Act KC Community,

I am incredibly honored to be the new Executive Director for First Act Theatre Arts! In my brief time with the organization, I have already started to feel like a part of the family, and I thank those of you whom I've had the pleasure of meeting for being so kind and welcoming. I look forward to meeting many more of you!

While I might be new to First Act, I grew up in the theatre and started performing in plays and musicals when I was ten years old. The experiences onstage and backstage helped shape me into the adult I am today. Theatre provided a safe space with other kids who were perhaps struggling to find their place in life. I know I certainly was! But when we came together and started the process of putting up a show, palpable magic permeated the cast and crew. And that's why I'm here, to ensure the magic that First Act provides to children and their families continues for years to come.

We still have two wonderful shows left in the current season, Tuck Everlasting, and Cinderella. I hope you all will join us in cheering on all the talented individuals working so hard to share that First Act magic with us. Also, we have a ton of exciting stuff coming up! Camp registration remains open, and audition sign-ups for Twelfth Night, Big Fish, and Footloose are open as well. And don't forget about next season! There's something for everyone in 2023-2024!

Summer 2023 is almost here and we need teen assistants! Teen Assistants are a vital part of our summer camp team. They make a huge impact on campers’ weeks and receive community service hours or First Act credit that can be used for classes and camp tuition. Are you a student age 13 or above who is interested in being a 2023 Teen Assistant? For Priority Consideration, apply by May 5! Click the button for more info.

Let’s stay accountable together this summer by participating in the First Act Dance Studio’s Summer Dance Session! Offered on Mondays and Wednesdays over a 6-week period (June 5- July 12), these one-hour classes will range from beginner to advanced dance classes. There is something for everyone! Classes are available for ages 10-18.

We will be holding dance placement on Monday, May 22 from 4:30-8:30 at the First Act Dance Studio, and we are asking that everyone who plans on taking dance in the fall/spring come to this placement. If your student plans on participating, please fill out this form with the style(s) and level(s) they are interested in. If they would like to try for a higher level, feel free to attend that placement level. See the schedule for any questions on specific times.
