In an effort to maintain healthy, green grass at The Park in La Haba Heights, the lawn was recently aerated. You may notice holes and soil cores, which are chunks of soil pulled out from the ground. This process will improve the flow of air, water, and nutrients to the grassroots, creating a beautiful park with a lush green lawn.

Utility worker Impersonators
|
Beware of utility imposters. It's important to know how to recognize and protect yourself from this scam. Scammers may identify themselves as workers from a utility company, claiming they need access to your home or payment for a repair. They use this approach to steal your personal or valuable information. These scams can occur in person or through phone calls, where the scammer may ask for payment.
Be cautious! Some red flags to consider are if the representative requests payment through prepaid debit cards or wire transfers, or pressures you to pay immediately. You can protect yourself from this scam by calling the customer service number located on your utility bill and ensuring that you are speaking to a real representative. You should also never allow anyone into your home unless you have scheduled an appointment or reported a problem, and always ask to see proper identification before letting them onto your property. Lastly, it's recommended that residents put security cameras around their property and install a doorbell camera, which can significantly deter crime and even help your local law enforcement identify individuals who may be impersonating a utility worker. If you already have a security system, it's always a good idea to check your system and ensure all cameras are working properly.

Firework Eye Safety Month
|
Fireworks can be beautiful and provide an exciting way to celebrate special occasions like Independence Day. If you plan to set off fireworks in a city that permits them, it's essential to be mindful of potential hazards and prioritize safety.
Every year, there are a number of fireworks injuries and fatalities, with about 14% resulting in eye injuries caused by fireworks. Eye injuries from improper use or defective fireworks include globe rupture, chemical and thermal burns, corneal abrasions, and retinal detachment, which could result in permanent vision loss. This is why safety measures should be taken into consideration to ensure a safe and enjoyable 4th of July holiday.
Steps for a safe firework experience
- Anyone using fireworks or standing nearby should wear protective eyewear
- Never allow young children to handle fireworks
- Older children should use them only under close adult supervision
- Never use fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol
- Never hold lighted fireworks in your hands
- Never light them indoors
- Only use them away from people, houses, and flammable material
- Never point or throw fireworks at another person
- Only light one device at a time and maintain a safe distance after lighting
- Never ignite devices in a container
- Do not try to re-light or handle malfunctioning fireworks
