JOHN KNOX PRESBYTERY

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

APRIL 29, 2024

Finding New Homes for Presbytery Office Contents

Since 1987, the John Knox Presbytery has maintained office space in Richland Center, Wisconsin, as a place somewhat close to the geographic center of our spread-out presbytery. It was a home for meetings, and records, and staff.

But as we leaned first into regional and online (or hybrid) gatherings—and then were forced into online only meetings by the pandemic—this reality became clear: that an office in Richland Center was more luxury than need. And when JKP joined with Winnebago Presbytery to employ Miranda Halsey as our joint senior administrative assistant, Council acted to close the Richland Center office. There was no need to maintain (and pay for) mostly unused space.

There are so many memories of the work that was done around the tables in the Richland Center office to support congregations and pastoral leaders, and to advance the work of the presbytery. But Miranda—and Winnebago Presbytery—already had office space, fully stocked; they don’t need most of our tables and desks and supplies. And so this invitation: Can your church, or a local non-profit you support, use these items well? And if not your church or someone you know, if there an organization in your town who will accept these items and re-use them?

Thursday, May 9 will be a day of distribution and thanksgiving, on which we invite you to the Richland Center office to come get what you can use. We’ll also have a noontime liturgy of closure to mark the important work. Oh, and lunch.

You can reserve some of the bigger stuff—desks and bookcases and file cabinets, tables and chairs—beginning Tuesday, April 30. Please email Miranda Halsey and tell her what you want. It’s first-come, first-awarded. And yes, if you wish, you’re welcome to make a donation to the Presbytery for the items you take.

Here are some pictures and descriptions of what’s available:

There are two large desks, with matching credenzas.

And tall bookcases--at least six.

And short bookcases, too, at least five.

Maybe eight metal file cabinets...

...and this kind, too, for all your forms.

Ten white folding tables...

...and a dozen chairs to match.

And office supplies, paper, tape, fans, and a couple of printers.

And three-ring binders, 50 or more. (We recycled the outdated content).

There is a season for all things. We celebrate the work done in the Richland Center office, and we now look to the next chapter, and the new ways, by which John Knox Presbytery will honor its calling support its ministries. We invite you to be a part of that.
