Check out what our athletes have been up to!

Thanks to your support, we are able to create fun activities and exciting opportunities for our athletes. Take a look at some of the things they've been doing this summer.

Mt. Hood Ski Trip

This month four of our athletes, Tommy, Natilia, Jana, and Dayquon, took a trip to Mt. Hood where they participated in the Spectrum Race Camp. The trip to Oregon was an opportunity for these athletes to experience skiing out west. Everyone's ski abilities improved greatly in this exciting setting. They also enjoyed hiking, campfires, group games, team-building, and meeting new friends from all over the country. This group did a great job of representing our program and city!

Cooking with SOC/SCC is back!

This month, we held two virtual cooking demos for our athletes. On Monday, June 12, Chef Jared from Common Threads showed our athletes how to make sweet potato, corn, and black bean tacos. The following week, he taught them to make homemade granola that they added to fruit parfaits. Fresh ingredients for each class were delivered directly to athletes' homes by Top Box Foods.

We'll be hosting more classes soon, so stay tuned!

Archery Invitational

On June 3, 100 athletes from Kosciuszko, Shabbona, Harrison, and Bessemer Parks gathered at the Pullman Community Center for the very first Archery Invitational. Shabbona Park won Best Overall Team. A separate skills participation event was also offered for the athletes still developing their skills.

Thank you to volunteers from the SOC/SCC Associate Board and Disney for joining us to help out!

CAN TV

Did you know that our athletes have their own show on CAN TV? Their crew joined us at our Evening Reception to interview guests. Their show airs on the first and third Saturday of each month at 9:30 AM. You can also view episodes anytime on Youtube.

Athlete Artwork Feature

For the month of June, our featured artwork is “Three Strikes” by Jasmine Diaz of Northside Learning Center. Jasmine’s artwork shows a group of friends bowling together. We like Jasmine’s artwork because it is very colorful and because bowling is one of our favorite activities to do with athletes, families, and friends!
