Rezoning

An ordinance recently passed through the County of Kaua`i approving a rezoning change for Kaua`i CC. Previously zoned as agriculture land, the land Kaua`i CC sits on will now be considered University land. This will improve the process of development for the college.

Business Education and Nursing Building Re-opens

A long awaited renovation project is finally complete! The Business Education and Health Science Building will be opening its doors to students for the first time this Fall. The project included interior renovations consisting of new flooring, lighting, restroom, doors, window blinds, paint job and air conditioning system. Ongoing air conditioning improvements will continue throughout the semester but will not impact day-to-day operations of the building.

Kauai Forest Bird Recovery Project Documentary

When: Tuesday, Aug. 8 @ 6-8 p.m.

Where: Kauai Community College Fine Arts Auditorium

With an Innovation Grant from the County of Kaua’i, Kauai Forest Bird Recovery Project produced a documentary about their efforts to save the last ‘akikiki from extinction.

New Student Orientation

When: Tuesday, Aug. 15 @ noon - 3 p.m.

Where: Kauai Community College Fine Arts Auditorium

At orientation, you will meet KCC faculty, staff, and student ambassadors; become familiar with resources available to students, and find your classrooms. Lunch will be served.

E Komo Mai Club Day

When: Wednesday, Aug. 23 @ 11 a.m. -2:30 p.m.

Where: Long sidewalk near the presentation hall and bus stop

Strive Ho'ike


Kauai Community College in collaboration with the Kauai Veterans Council held its 2nd Start-up Training Resources to Inspire Veteran Entrepreneurs (STRIVE) Ho`ike, Monday, July 3. Ten amazing business concepts were presented to the audience and judges. The winners were Patricia Wistinghausen - Connect, Collaborate, and Amplify; Aaron and Kalei Carvalho - Aaron's Repair & Service; Faamoemoega Alaiafune - Ka Moa Events; and Susan Pang - Shroom Shack. Alicia Sams and Dirk Soma, STRIVE Program Coordinators, would love to thank all of the donors, supporters, industry speakers, and `ohana who helped make this 9-week program that supports Veterans, Spouses, and Dependents a success. A shout out to Mary Kay Hertog, Executive Director of the Kauai Veterans Council for her leadership and commitment, and a special shout out to Andy and Missy Ivankovich, owners of Singing Waters Vineyards unconditional support! 2023 ‘Alekoko ‘Āina Academy


This summer, Nā Pua No‘eau held its annual Summer Institute Program ‘Alekoko ‘Āina Academy. Students had the opportunity to take Hawaiian Studies (HWST) 107 with Kumu Pua Rossi and teaching assistant, Kumu Anuhea Piliere to earn free college credit provided by Title III. This years ‘Alekoko ‘Āina Academy was extra special because it was the first time it was offered to mākua (parents). Twelve haumāna (students - grade 9 to 12) and two mākua spent time between the Alekoko Fishpond and Kaua‘i CC exploring the unique aspects of Hawai‘i and Hawaiian culture in relation to the larger Pacific including origins, language, religion, land, art, history, and current issues. They were also able to partake in huaka‘i (excursion) to the Kaua‘i Museum and several wahi pana (historical places) around Kaua‘i.

Humber College Visit


Kauai Community College welcomed 14 students from Toronto, Canada's Humber College this past June. The cohort was also accompanied by Humber College staff: Jason, VP of Students and Institutional Planning, Danny, Indigenous Education and Curriculum Specialist, and Caitlin, Coordinator of Indigenous Health and Wellness. Students were supported by a grant from the Canadian Government which provides study abroad opportunities for under-represented students. The class traveled across the island to learn more about Hawaiian culture, Kauai history, and sustainability efforts and problems we face here on Kauai. They were able to huaka'i to learn from local organizations such as Koke‘e State Park, Waipā, Mālama Hulē‘ia, Iwikua, Hui Maka‘āinana o Makana, and Kauai Coffee. For their ho'ike, the students helped make dinner using our imu with food they harvested from our Kaua'i CC lo'i and ulutopia. Mahalo to all the faculty and staff involved to make this a successful and memorable trip for these students!
