Waiting Room Reminders: For the initial session, it is Company policy that all parent(s) and/or guardian(s) of minor clients be present in person. This allows the provider to speak with the parent and review the Professional Disclosure Statement and/or answer any questions they may have about the therapeutic process. This policy also applies to telehealth sessions. All providers need to visually see and speak with minor clients' parent(s) and/or guardian(s) at the first session.
For subsequent sessions, minor clients under the age of 10 must have a parent(s) and/or guardian(s) present at ALL times. This parent and/or guardian must visually present with the minor client during the check-in process. If the parent and/or guardian chooses to wait in the parking lot after check-in, a staff member must escort the minor child out to the parent(s) and/or guardian's vehicle after the session. Parent(s) and/or guardian(s) are not permitted to leave the Company's premises at any time for children under the age of 10.
For subsequent sessions, minor clients that are age 10 or older do not need to have a parent present at all times. However, parent(s) and/or guardians(s) must be accessible by phone at all times. It is the Company's preference that all parent(s) and/or guardians(s) remain on the Company's premises, but it is not required.
In the event that a provider needs to discuss pertinent information with a minor client's parent(s) and/or guardian(s), the provider shall ensure that the minor client has something therapeutic to work on during this time. For children under the age of 10, a staff member must be present in the reception area. Children under the age of 10, are NOT to be left alone while a staff member speaks to a parent(s) and/or guardian(s).
Providers and/or Company staff may require additional parental and/or guardian supervision based on a minor client's presenting diagnoses, needs, behaviors, or otherwise. This policy is subject to change without notice.
For adult clients who bring a minor child(ren) with them to their sessions, it is not the responsibility of the Company to monitor this child(ren). For children under the age of 2, they are able to attend the session with their parent(s) and/or guardian(s), although this is not recommended. Children ages 3 through 9 are able to wait without their caregiver in the waiting room, so long as they have a sibling, friend, family member, or otherwise aged 10 or older. Children aged 10 or older may wait in the waiting room unattended, so long as their parent(s) and/or guardian(s) are easily accessible.
